When the English colonized the Atlantic seaboard, one of the first things the settlers did was look for and mine lead. They'd melt them down to make these:

learn something new every day...just never though of it...I wonder how they found the lead to mine.....I remember as a child back in the 40’s watching my father make his own bullets...after he retired from the police force he used the mold to make sinkers for fishing lines...he also had his own cartridges and made the nose of the bullet, I think I still have his pot and ladle he used.
