My dad was posted in Norfolk for six years or so, first when he was in
Eisenhower and then at AIRLANTFLT. We always went to the beach at Oceana. In the summer, the Navy ROTC boys would be out there, and if there was gunnery or bombing practice going on, you could still sit on the sand ;-).
I used to ride at the stable there, too. The horses were all deaf in the frequencies of jet engines.
But when the wind was from the west ... unnngh, the hog farms!
