I never really got this. If they wanted to name the ship after someone who was hispanic, there were so many better choices out there.

With this pathetic gang of Marxists in office we'll probably soon be getting the USS Pancho Villa, the USS Eugene Debs and the USS W.E.B. DuBois.

Chavez enlisted in the Navy at age 17 and served for two years

I have never met, nor heard of a sailor having only served TWO years. Only in circumstances of injury, or other triggers would this happen - unless there was a reduction in force...it would be nice to know why Cesar only served two years.

How about the USNS Ted Kennedy? The Captain gets drunk, sinks the ship, swims to shore and reports it the next day after he’s sobered up and put on a neck brace.

Cesar Chavez inspired young Americans to do what is right and what is necessary to protect our freedoms and our country.

Actually, Cesar Chavez (besides being the only human capable of visibly gaining immense amounts of weight while on "hungar" strikes) was an uber-left wing union thugs' thug who died in a whore house.

.

Naming one after Medgar Evers is worse than Chavez. At least the latter served in the Navy and was opposed to illegal immigration

The people of the Navy are top notch...as usual.

The leadership of the Navy is a collection of politically correct Obamastuff.
