“I love people who dream. It may backfire for us republicans but it certainly works pretty well for the democrats. Hilary, Cain, Sarah and so on and so on...wake up”
I dont think it was the negative campaigning that stopped hillary, it was the fact that she and her campaign felt they were entitled to win the election, so coasted even before one vote was cast. Kind of like Romney today.
Cain & Palin, both of whom I like personally, were done in as much by themselves as by the media. Cain could barely even answer questions about 9-9-9, usually telling people they were comparing apples and oranges or to check his website. Palin, had 2 months to show the American people that she had the experience and knowledge to potentially be President of the US (one heartbeat away after all) and unfortunately her (or more accurately, McCain’s) consultants over consulted her so she looked very unsure of herself and often a deer in headlights.
Like the behavior of a stock, a candidate’s future is derived from expectations. When something happens to make someone say “hey, I’m surprised by this, this doesnt sound like a candidate I would want to voter for at all” that is when a candidate is in trouble. What exactly can be so surprising about Newt’s past to get anyone to say that? People know he has a checkered past. Also it helps that he has asked forgiveness from the Lord. I think people will be willing to look past his past sins due to that. Now if you find out he has been having an affair with a staffer in his current campaign, now that could do him in.
