Romney and Gingrich, From Bad to Worse
By George F. Will December 2
Republicans are more conservative than at any time since their 1980 dismay about another floundering president. They are more ideologically homogenous than ever in 156 years of competing for the presidency. They anticipated choosing between Mitt Romney, a conservative of convenience, and a conviction politician to his right. The choice, however, could be between Romney and the least conservative candidate, Newt Gingrich.
Romneys main objection to contemporary Washington seems to be that he is not administering it. God has 10 commandments, Woodrow Wilson had 14 points, Heinz had 57 varieties, but Romneys economic platform has 59 planks 56 more than necessary if you have low taxes, free trade and fewer regulatory burdens. Still, his conservatism-as-managerialism would be a marked improvement upon todays bewildered liberalism.
Gingrich, however, embodies the vanity and rapacity that make modern Washington repulsive. And there is his anti-conservative confidence that he has a comprehensive explanation of, and plan to perfect, everything.
Granted, his grandiose rhetoric celebrating his transformative self is entertaining: Recently he compared his revival of his campaign to Sam Waltons and Ray Krocs creations of Wal-Mart and McDonalds, two of Americas largest private-sector employers. There is almost artistic vulgarity in Gingrichs unrepented role as a hired larynx for interests profiting from such government follies as ethanol and cheap mortgages. His Olympian sense of exemption from standards and logic allowed him, fresh from pocketing $1.6 million from Freddie Mac (for services as a historian), to say, If you want to put people in jail, look at the politicians who profited from Washingtons environment.

Wish I understood why some opinions land in Front Page News. Sometimes in Breaking News!
Will’s not supporting anyone this time. He’s waiting for Bob Dole to run again.
Will disses Mitt.
He's actually pushing Perry & Huntsman.
You should have at least finished the phrase: Mitt Romney, a conservative of convenience
‘Short-sighted unto blindness’ would be more like it.
I’m voting for Perry. He’s the best choice out of the candidates, imo. He is to the right of Gingrich on immigration too.
Why yes, yes he did!
IOW, Bowtie and Brylcreem wants us to stick with Romney. Thanks Steelfish.
I am not talking about Perry, I am talking about the head efete BSer George Will??? plz
The BASE is finally going to say, stop the nit picking. I do. After all these geniuses in the media and purist posters get done, we will have a nominee that will lost 49 states to the Socialist in Chief. Enough. There are no conservs in the Dem Party. OK, and there are many in the GOP. The nominee will have to go with that BASE and change things especially if the voters give Pubs both houses. So stop the crying and bit.....If Newt or Mitt or Rick gets the nomination, go full force for them. The enemy is Obama for pete’s sake.
MOSLUMS VOTE TO SUPPORT TERRORISM IN EGYPT
Islamic fundamentalist Muslim Brotherhood’s Freedom and Justice Party garnered 36.6 percent of the 9.7 million valid ballots cast last week for party lists. The Nour Party, representing the more hard-line Salafi Islamists, captured 24.4 percent.
SOLUTION:
Paul/Rubio. Paul will stop paying Israel, thus making Israel much more dangerous to the moslums. Thus the moslums will respect Israel or the Israeli Pit Bull will be off the leash mauling Islam with Nuclear teeth.!!!....Rubio will win the Latino vote. nuf said.
I know you are, and if you had read the article you would know that Will did disclose that his wife works for Perry’s campaign.
Will is a Perrier conservative.
perhaps the “anybody but romney” wish should have been a bit more extensive...
