McKinney is probably best remembered for the infamous "Squeal like a pig" mountain man in Deliverance, but he played a lot of memorable parts. He was great as Captain "Red Legs" Terrill in The Outlaw Josey Wales. According to his bio, he was a minesweeper crewman during the Korean War, too.
RIP, Mr. McKinney.

The Outlaw Josey Wales is my favorite movie of all-time hands down.

Liked him in Green Mile even though his role was very small.

That was a fascinating movie.
Burt Reynolds did his best acting.

Movie trivia: Did you know that the Deliverance kid didn’t play the banjo, but someone behind him put his arms around the kid and played?

I liked McKinney in the various Clint Eastwood movies too.
However, I don’t think he was in High Plains Drifter, my second favorite Western after the Outlaw Josey Wales.

More Trivia: James Dickey, the author of Deliverance, played the role of the sheriff at the end of the movie. And he was actually pretty good, too.

It’s a favorite of mine, too. So many great, quotable lines in that one. Especially John Vernon’s “Senator, there’s another old saying...don’t **** down my back and tell me it’s raining!”

More trivia: According to Burt Reynolds, McKinney really did penetrate Ned Beatty and had to be pulled off of him by the film crew. The banjo kid was apparently the progeny of this unholy alliance.
