I remember that wretched chapter so well. I was delighted when he shut the government down—I thought he was one tough cookie. I recall the exact moment when I learned it was nothing more than a paid vacation for the fed employees. I just stood there gobsmacked and dismayed, thinking, ‘They get paid time off to get ready for Christmas? Why is *that* not an issue in and of itself, that needs to be FIXED???’

A narcissist will spin every loss and misstep as a clever victory. I think the term for it on DU is, ‘winning through losing’. Too many people have no idea what a true narcissist is, or what they’re all about. They just think Newt has a big ego. Sorry, it’s far more insidious than that.

Of course, there is no perfect candidate! EVERYONE knows that. That is a non-argument for Newt. Find a new one. Our goal should be to pick an IMPERFECT candidate is the most consistent defender of liberty and free markets and that is NOT Newt. Please find an argument to address that argument.

I knew someone who got a job working for the Federal government earlier that year. She not not only got the three paid shutdown weeks off, but then a few weeks later in January 1996 a huge blizzard hit the area and she got the fourth paid week off.

Yes, Newt spins it as his big success.

At the end of the day it is irrelevant to me. Usually, Newt will have a logical explanation for any soundbite you can come up with, but the present is what I care about, because that is where we live.

Then what's the difference between Gingrich and Romney? They both say conservative sounding things in the debates and put out conservative sounding press releases.

In 1987 Phyllis Schaffely and the American Conservative Union supported the Fairness Doctrine because liberals dominated the airwaves...Newt does NOT support it today as things have changed..Fairness Doctrine

Newt opposes the left’s efforts to reinstate the Fairness Doctrine and vocally supported Rep. Mike Pence’s 2007 bill that prohibited government censorship in radio.

Newt does not support the Fairness Doctrine and he has been vocally critical of the left’s efforts to reinstate the doctrine over the past decade, including supporting Mike Pence’s bill that prohibited government censorship in radio in 2007.

In 1987, the three left-wing networks plus PBS/NPR dominated media, and talk-radio was still nascent; many of America’s most influential conservative activists, including the American Conservative Union and Phyllis Schlafly, supported the Fairness Doctrine at this time.

The rapid growth of conservative viewpoints in the media in the last 25 years is a testament to the power and innovation of the conservative movement once power is taken out of the hands of the elite networks and put into the hands of consumers.

I forgot their freebie paid vacation lasted nearly a mo. Ever wonder why none of the GOPers, including Newt, ever try to really, genuinely and sincerely rein in out of control Fed spending? It’s because the DC insiders, Ruling Class-Establishment types love DC just the way it is. It works for them [though NOT for us], and they love their myriad perks. That’s the reason for the wall of silence from GOP leadership when one of our good conservative outsiders is savaged by the MSM. The GOP leadership is actually cheering the lies and smears of the MSM on. Sickening, but true.

Newt went back through a time portal and became the second shooter in the William McKinley assassination.

That was then; this is Newt Now.

I won't defend past actions of Newt. I've attacked them many times on this forum as well.

The sole reason Newt is where he is in the polls is that apparently he is the only remaining GOP POTUS candidate capable of stopping this! => Romney's the One.

Newt killed Lizzie Borden`s parents, distracted the Red Sox` Bill Buckner in the `86 World Series and ate Mary`s little lamb.

Newt was the mastermind behind New Coke, clamshell packaging you can’t open, and the designated hitter rule.

God has forgiven Newt for this transgression why can't we?/sarcasm

I'll say it again. Newt can't be trusted. He is no different than Barrack Obama. They are both Narcissist and will never change-

Narcissistic personality disorder is a mental disorder in which people have an inflated sense of their own importance and a deep need for admiration. Those with narcissistic personality disorder believe that they're superior to others and have little regard for other people's feelings. But behind this mask of ultra-confidence lies a fragile self-esteem, vulnerable to the slightest criticism.

It was not Eve, it was Newt that ate the apple.

Actually, Newt talked her into eating the apple, and got a Monica from her too.

The problem with Newt is that he thinks he is a conservative Futurist.

CFR
GATT
NAFTA
Americano

He sees a future where nation states are passe, obsolete. Which leaves the global elite to decide the fate of the world in INTERNATIONAL venues and organs, free from the backwards attitudes of “peasants” in fly over land.

Internationalists are not conservatives, they are almost as great a threat to the United States as a sovereign nation state as the Communist dominated Democratic party.

Trust this man and loose your country step by step via International treaty.
