There are times when one must go where duty calls. To feed ones family, one must go where the jobs are. My bravest most stalwart partner on one particular overseas assignment earned the title of “Bravest Jew in Damascus.” He was the only Jew in Damascus. Everywhere we went, all eyes were on him. A walk through the hotel lobby caused heads to turn. It was amusing to watch the way the local intelligence service reacted to our presence. Jew and Christian, followed everywhere by a crowd of agents and neighborhood militia. How did they spot him? The visa application required you to list your religion. He never hesitated.

I don’t think I would go where I needed 3 guards around to make it safe to live there.

Especially three guards who allow people to walk up asking for food and end up being tied up and ignored.

The first people I would question would be the 3 guards.
Were they in on it? Were they Pakistani guards?

Americans should stay out of Pakistan.
