Technically, and legally, a State of War has existed - and still exists - between the United States and Iran since 1979, when the Ayatollah Khomeni declared war...
That declaration has never been rescinded or abrograted, as far as I know.....
Same with North Korea, we have a cease fire on condition of negotiations for a truce, still in effect. Still at war.
