I dunno. Other than “secure the border” I didn’t hear an answer. I was hoping he would have a good answer.
Glad you heard secure the border.
He is purposely circumventing the question so that he won’t be nailed down unfairly like he was on the in state tuition thing.
He is also laying ground to the notion that we never would have even had to deal with in state tuition if the borders were secure and the federal Gov did not force Texas to educate these illegals k-12.
Secure the borders and then we will look at programs.
It’s the “gotcha” question of the immigration debate, hasn’t anyone figured that out by now? You ask “what will you do with the x million illegals after you secure the border?” If they say they will deport all x million, you call them a racist...if they say they cannot deport all x million you scream amnesty. Rick is smart to avoid the gotcha question.
He will not answer that question, not because it's a got 'cha question, because he, like everyone else who actually deals with the border understands that giving an answer to that question could be devastating to border states. Unlike Newt and his "Red Card" Perry gets that if you spell out who gets to stay and who doesn't it could cause a stampede on the border of people flooding in so they can meet those conditions. When they passed amnesty during Reagan's term that is exactly what happened.
It is irresponsible for anyone running for for President of the United States to be signalling to people in Mexico how they can sneak across the border and stay here legally if they are elected.
