That, of course, presumes that the story has any merit to it.
If the story is legitimate, then it reinforces the cynical but potentially correct view that Cain was never serious about running, he just wanted the publicity for book sales and listeners, and maybe to "drive the debate" on a topic or two. With Palin bailing, Bachmann immolating, and Perry falling flat on face, he found himself in the unexpected position of serious challenger -- at that point, all he could do would be to hope that this stuff didn't come out. That would at least be a logical explanation, but it does rely on several assumptions.
I love Herman and gave him money. However I always make sure I have never put myself in a position that would look bad in the future to the wrong people, like my wife of 37 years. This is beginning to sound like where there is smoke there was fire. Its beginning to look like Herman has what is called work wife affairs. I am waiting this out but it does not look good.
I am sure the Chicago political attack machine was behind all of these outings, however that said one has to wonder if he set himself up for these attacks. Life is not fair and our side never gets away with anything.
I am pretty angry at this point. If this is true about the affair then he knowingly set up Americans who trusted him, supported his campaign just to let them down. Even if he gave the finger to the media and just admitted an affair he has lost the trust of Americans.
I am starting to lein towards the same theory. He was never interested in getting this far and now he is having and Oh sh*t moment....
