Newt Gingrich goes deeper on immigration plan

CHARLESTON, S.C. — Newt Gingrich responded to the controversy over his stance on illegal immigration by going deeper.

At a town hall here Monday evening hosted by tea party favorite Rep. Tim Scott, Gingrich outlined a seven-part plan and called for withholding federal funds from “sanctuary cities,” that don’t enforce federal immigration laws.

Gingrich also pitched a “World War II selective service model” for long-term illegal immigrants that would allow them to receive support from their communities — and remain in the country.

While they wouldn’t be deported, Gingrich said they would also not receive citizenship or be allowed to vote, drawing a distinction between his proposal and amnesty.

“I don’t believe you’ll ever pass a bill that requires us to hunt down every single person who has lived here illegally,” he said.

Gingrich has been under fire since endorsing a “humane” policy on immigration that allowed people who have been in the country for decades to remain without getting deported. Though some of the criticism was blunted by the break from campaigning over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, Gingrich’s comments have opened the first major line of attack for his rivals since he’s shot forward in the polls.

Spare me the BS. Newt has a long, long history of being on the wrong side of this debate, and you want me to just put all of that history aside and believe he is truly serious now?

Amen to that. Go ahead and kick that football Charlie Brown, I think this will be the time that Lucy lets you kick it.

"They would never allow the Government to confer “second class” status on Mexicans, forever depriving them of citizenship or the vote,..."

Depends. FIrstly, the notion the majority of Illegals want citizenship, is just plain wrong. They want legal status. That 'non-resident' status will allow them to vote in lots of areas of the country now, with more considering it. I would look for the ACLU/La Raza to sue to allow them to vote in all elections.

What you do is your choice. I haven’t settled on any one candidate YET. I am actually praying that we will have the right person in office. I encourage everyone else to do the same. We are going to need God’s divine intervention to turn this nation around.
