"I think the problem is that the poor children, keep in mind it's 42% of poor children who live at or near poverty, it's 25% in poverty. Our audience needs to keep that in mind." Cornel West said on MSNBC this afternoon.
"Poor children need more than just a $1,000 for their family, they need a war against poverty to make it a major priority in the way which we have a priority for Afghanistan, and a priority to bail out banks, and a priority to defend corporate interests when it comes to environmental issues," West said about more and new entitlements for the poor.
Professor West didn't just call for another war on poverty (the first war was fought by Lyndon B. Johnson), but went on to say that the push for more entitlements "is going to be fought in the streets." West showered the Occupy movement with praise for making people aware of the issue.
"It's a major question of priorities here. That's why the Occupy movement is so important because some of this is going to be fought in the streets. Civil disobedience does make a difference," he said.
"Corporate greed now is an issue everybody has got to talk about. Wealth inequality. Everybody must talk about it because of the Occupy movement," Mr. West concluded.

Charlatans like West were Booker T. Washington’s greatest fear for the Black community.
It’s a mess in Detroit every Father’s day...
The War on Poverty was/is proof positive that Lyndon Johnson truely hated black people.
If they goes insides da schools, dey gets free eats 3 times a day.
Listed to some idiot on local news the other night complaining because of all the poor children in Houston who don’t have an iPad or iPhone and have trouble getting their homework done. Most people in the US haven’t a clue of what being poor is really like but the way we are going some of them might find out. Sick of it.
"Word salad"? 75% of poor children don't live in poverty????
If not more.
“a fishin’ pole in every pot” !!
Well I guess that means the push for LESS entitlements will be part of that battle too. Sounds good to me.
He’s just not that smart...the poster boy for affirmative action.
“....and I’m all out of gum”
West turned the sequel into a copy of Brave New World?
I remember when I saw the Matrix sequel, and I hated it. Instead of the "good" land of Zion spoken of in the original, the sequel portrayed it as some sort of Minority Disneyland of pagan screwing, drums welfare for all, and drugs. Then I discovered the Cornel West was some sort of weird "social conscious advisor" to the movie
I don’t mind a war on poverty as long as the first battle is on those too lazy to get off the Govt. tit and find themselves a job.
“...Lyndon Johnson truely hated black people.”
But, but, but...LBJ was a liberal Democrat. /s
To wit, I recall reading a book about 12 years ago, written by a former Secret Service agent on LBJ’s security detail. He quotes LBJ, Lady Bird and their daughters regularly referring to the “black” White House staff as a “bunch of” or “our” ni—ers.
(Perhaps that’s why the MSM has never done an in-depth documentary on LBJ. Or maybe, and even more telling, is the fact that the MSM has perpetuated the “myth” that Kennedy was responsible for the “Equal Rights Amendment.” FYI... Kennedy refused to sign the bill and thus it was left up to LBJ to sign it into law. Yet, damn near every “black” family in the USA has picture of JFK on their mantel rather than LBJ. If they only new the truth.)
The “Equal Rights Amendment” was just a continuation of black slavery through alternate means.
So, yeah, I agree. Democrats hate black people.
How novel, another poverty pimping POS threatening violence.
Screw him, let’s see if this ahole is on the front line.
"Doctor" West, that would be an exceedingly poor choice.
Please Cornel, just tell me when and where you personally will be in the streets to fight this fight. I’ll be there to meet and “greet” you.
Him on the front line? He’l be in another country if he has the time to run that far.
