Fencing isn't easy or cheap.

True, so how 'bout this: Build a tower every two miles and place a Marine sniper in each with orders to wound on sight. Anyone who is wounded and crawls to the US side has a big "II" tattooed on their forehead. Anyone seen in the kill zone with an II on their forehead becomes a free target. My guess is that it wouldn't take too long before other means would be sought out. My guess is that you could build and maintain the towers for a lot less than $36 million per tower.

I find the orthodox position regarding the border troublesome. It bothers me when the candidates stand in a debate challenging Obama to stop spending so much money only to then argue for spending billions and billions of dollars to build walls and fences on our southern border. And that is to ignore the tunnels that the cartels are already using to ship drugs over. However, I guess it shouldn’t surprise me that the GOP would avoid following their own advice. The Republicans in office when W was in certainly didn’t, and Obama and his cronies have been using that record against us ever since.

Given the fact that 30 million illegals create around 50 congressional districts, how cheap is it to pay the 6 figure salaries of those congressmen, plus their staff, their expense accounts, the earmarks they take, the pork projects they vote for.....

Amnesty is government growth hormone.

Build old fashioned fence. Shovel ready jobs right there.

Works better than virtual fake wall. No fence is perfect, but it makes crossing more diffcult and slower, and hence, easier to catch the few who make it through.

Heck, with that much money you could give a Marine a free house, for every mile a Marine homeowner, and a free dog too!
No wait. You could, for $18M a mile, probably pack in eighteen Marines in million dollar homes, and eighteen retired K9’s.

Militarize a swath of land at the border for it’s whole length, other than towns. A “no walk zone”.

Spotters on the ground working with warthogs seem to work great against personnel.

The 75th Training Command appears to be right near Houston. The border would be a great first assignment prior to going overseas. Texas has tons of military right there. This way we’re not spending extra money, just moving existing installations to the border. Might as well put the troops on the front line.

I know I don’t go wanderin’ onto military bases...

IMHO...

For that kind of money, you could build 100 or so miles of high-speed train coming out of Fresno.

I think you’re right. I was just trying to save a few bucks along the way.

Saving bucks is important! The govt could always hold a raffle and make real good returns. Buy a chance to win a mortgage-free million-dollar home? You bet!
Make it open to American LEOs and military of good record, and veterans.
Tickets may be purchased by sponsors among the general public.
Might even make a profit! :)

I know. I posted this because I was stunned at the amount of money spent on what was apparently an unsuccessful attempt at border control.

I don’t exactly trust the author of this piece. I don’t trust anyone who works for the Dallas Morning News. they are a left-wing rag.

But if the numbers he used are true, it’s quite eye-opening.
