“The family said they believe they may have been targeted because they had returned from Walmart where they spent a lot of money. They had just unloaded several gifts from their vehicle.”
This is a serious MO. I almost had the same thing happen when coming home from Best Buy after buying a laptop. When you pay, there is no bag, so the whole world can see you walk into the parking lot with it. I get to my house and there is a car dead on my tail. I caught it just in time and drove by my house, but he kept on me. After a doubling back, I decided to head to the police station, and he dropped off. Of course I filed a report anyway.
So watch out...it’s an easy crime for them these days.
Yes, it is. A few years back we actually had people getting tailed on their way back from the local GUN RANGE! Bad guys would wait till the victim would pull into his driveway then jump out of their own car and rob the victim at gun point. Of his own guns.
Situational awareness at this time of year especially, is paramount.
That is a horrifying story, BobL! I am so glad that you saw something suspicious. Once again, it pays to be aware of your surroundings (even driving) at all times. I do know it is recommended NOT to place big ticket item boxes on the curb or in the recycling box (especially after Christmas). I don’t know how many times that I have seen a computer box, XBox box etc... the first trash pick up day after Christmas.
