Most headlines are written in the present tense to bring currency and relevance to a lot of news that is 6-24 hours old. It's odd that this news outfit sought to portray a person defending her home as becoming a victim of her right to defense. Am I reading too much into this?

I thought the headline ok, but it would have been more accurate if it had read:
“Wounded Mom defending home shot, killed intruder.”
