ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) More Latino Republicans are seeking and winning elected office and their families' background are becoming the subject of increased scrutiny from some liberal Latino activists.

Gov. Susana Martinez R-NM came under scrutiny to prove her pedigree to the liberal racists. Only conservatives need to prove their lineage.
BTW, is Freerepublic running on backup squirrel or something?
It’s largely a question of education, not ethnicity. My wife is a very conservative, even libertarian, Latina. I think this was due to disgust with her own country’s government. She was a government worker who saw how politics drove everything. She sees the same situation here.
If you side with the Gringos you're a vendido. So hey, ese, who's your daddy?
Liberals parrot this crap because they're punks who want to be in the gang. But the gang just uses them for a little group discipline....
Get in line, vato. Lockstep for La Raza...

While this sort of nonsense might work on black Americans, Mexican Americans are anything *but* monolithic in their political views.
Much of this bodes ill for liberals, as Mexicans, for generations, became very familiar with corrupt, lying politicians, who knew that as long as they were part of the PRI machine, they were guaranteed reelection, so owed nobody but their party bosses anything.
Then, when the country was split during its revolution, something horrible and unforgettable happened that showed them how deadly being politically monolithic could be.
It is usually explained as a group of people would be walking down a road when a band of armed horsemen would ride up, and demand to know, “Which side of the fight are you on?” And if they answered wrong, to kill them on the spot.
So they got into the habit of any group splitting in half, with half saying one side, and the other half saying the other side, so at least half the group would survive, even though it guaranteed the death of the unlucky other half. But in their minds it was better than randomly guessing, which could get them all killed.
While things aren’t so deadly anymore, the cultural lesson took hold, so after the PRI finally permitted effective competing political parties, a lot of Mexicans took the opportunity to join “the other guys”.
Importantly, there is one other eccentricity, in that Mexicans are very suspicious of radicalism in any direction, as again, they see that as a great way to get killed.
