Gingrich offers a wide open opportunity to citizenship for the bulk of the illegals who are here now. Just put together his three main points:

1) ‘legality’ for those who have been here for some sort of a long time,
2) a red card system whereby employers can chose to hire and make legal virtually any worker on the planet that they would like, and
3) his proposal that those here now can get in line for citizenship by applying for it while they are home visiting their old country.

Given 1 and 2, virtually anyone here can make a trip home and come right back with impunity, then go about their business here ‘legally’ until their citizenship comes through.

Have you read all 41 pages on the Red Card system?

It is about amnesty, period.

My impression, repeat impression, is that nowhere does Gingrich provide for an alien illegally in America to remain here while an application for citizenship is pending.

Can you supply a citation?

If this is merely an assumption on your part, my impression is to the contrary because I believe he would require an illegal to return to the native country to make the application and he further would deny those who entered illegally to jump ahead in line. As I said, this is an assumption.

Let's assume that your view is the correct one. It then means that those who would stay in the country under his "path to legality" would simply remain but not be advanced in line toward citizenship.
