Actually, moderate Muslims are not a myth, but they are to be found in great numbers only among the Shi’ites. The most obvious examples are the Ismailis who regard jihad as primarily internal struggle, and the Aga Khan as the only imam with the authority to call for jihad in the sense of warfare (the Oxbridge educated, very cosmopolitan and fabulously wealthy Aga Khans, and the Ismaili imams before them since the Mongols destroyed Ismaili temporal power show no inclination do to any such thing).

The Druze, likewise are an example, due to their odd doctrine that requires them to support whatever religion is dominant in the surrounding culture — thus Israeli Druze are permitted to fight in the IDF and do so bravely and loyally, while Lebanese Druze used to support the Christian government until the Palestinian refugee influx tilted the demographic balance to (Twelver) Shi’ites so that they now support Hezbollah.

The orthodox Twelver Shi’ites in Iraq who followed Al Sistani and oppose the Iranian Ta’ajilis (Hasteners) are another example: except for a three month period when Al Sistani tilted toward Iran for internal Iraqi political reasons, he was objectively supportive of U.S. goals in Iraq from the invasion until his death. It was Al Sistani who persuaded the Iraqi Shi’ites to accept the super-majority provisions in the Iraqi constitution and constitutional ratification process on the basis that it wasn’t an American ‘trick’ but something beneficial we had done for ourselves in our constitution and constitutional ratification process.

I am, however, dubious about the existence of any reliably moderate Sunnis. When there was a caliph, the Sunnis were as radical or moderate as the regnant caliph and thus could change from one to the other at the whim or one man or upon a succession to the caliphate. Now, they basically regard every Muslim as his own mullah, so “sudden jihadi syndrome” is always possible with any of them, as, unlike Shi’ite sects they have no recognized superior religious authority to either restrain or prod them.

A true moderate Muslim is considered to be an apostate.

There is one Koran, and it tells Muslims to kill non-Muslims, period. I really don’t give a rip about the “nuances” of the various purported sects of the Ishmaelites—they’re all dead wrong, and many of them want to kill us.

The fact is that they have invaded our country and wormed their way into the highest levels of our government, and they mean to subjugate America under their detestable Islamist ideology. There is nothing “moderate” about the ones who are here on a mission (CAIR, anyone?), and I’ll be damned if I will stand by silently while they continue their hellish crusade against us.
