Once in high school I had my mom’s 66 Comet Cyclone up to what I think was about 140.

In high school I used to race my Mom's 1979 Pontiac Grand LeMans (350, 4 bbl) on a measured quarter mile. The speedometer only went to 85, but the guys with the stopwatches had me at about 125.

Having ridden many miles in a 66 comet cyclone, I can tell you your speedometer was broke. My friends. Old maid aunt had one, she was a school teacher, boy did we have fun in that thing, red two door, four in the floor. To run 140, you would need a 273 rear end and a long, long down grade

NOT BELIEVABLE ,

Just a Mustang with weaker engines and more frontal area...

115 MAYBE

I had a 1970 Cougar with a Cleveland that couldn’t break 120 until I put a 385 series (429/460) distributor in it (351C distributors broke up at 5500 ,, 460 distributors remained stable to 7000).. and yes at high speeds my speedo read high...
