WASHINGTON Newt Gingrich isnt backing off his humane immigration stance despite complaints from Republican hardliners and fellow Presidential hopefuls hes embellishing it.
The former House speaker issued 10 Steps to a Legal Nation this week, expanding on his remarks during Tuesdays GOP debate

Those guilty only of sneaking into the U.S. would have a path to legality, but not citizenship similar to the existing naturalization process, plus a penalty fee of at least $5,000.

Cain has not run a perfect campaign. I wish he had, but he hasn’t. His missteps have not diminished my support of him, however, because (1) he is a dynamically passionate patriot and conservative, and (2) he would demolish Obama in the general.
In the beginning I didn’t know much about Perry. I’ve read up on him and listened to him. I will vote for him if he’s the nominee. I will do it w’out enthusiasm, though, for reasons too many to list. If I started enumerating them, I would get into an all day discussion w you. I have almost zero time to post today, so that would be a huge mistake. I’ll leave it at this: if Perry is your kind of conservative, more power to you. He is not my kind At All, and Cain is. May the best man win.
I didn’t think I was that bad; I’ll try to do better.
Thanks for reading my posts.
We haven't even tried in over a half century, so perhaps we should actually start trying?

In the spirit of your gracious reply, let me say this. I started liking Perry after he couldn’t remember the third dept. he would cut. I hadn’t seen the debate, and I got up the next morning to the news that Perry had lost the election due to some horrible blunder. So I found a clip and watched it, and my exact thoughts were, ‘This is not so bad at all! In fact, it makes Perry seem very personable, likeable and decent. In fact, I like him far more now than before I watched this clip!’
I would go so far, at this point in time, as to say Perry is my second choice. A far distant second, but still my preference over the others. There are aspects of him I like A Lot. So as I said to the other poster, May the Best Man Win. :)
Rick Perry said unequivocably that he would support the Republican Candidate.
I made the same pledge.
Cheers.
Only a few more left to take out, and Romney will be the last man standing - and just in time for the primaries, too! How convenient!
Be careful not to throw the conservatives overboard so fast. In the end, we’ll end up with something 100 times worse, because that’s what the elites have chosen for us!
“I agree. what do people want? This is what we have. Newt or Romney. We cant sit it out.”
What we want is an honest assessment of the situation. We have more than Newt and Romney. The primaries are a long process, so you shouldn’t act like only 2 candidates remain. In fact, Cain for one is still polling very well.
“Gosh, wouldnt it be great if it were finally Santorums turn.”
Check out this from the Reagan debate in September. Santorum isnt much different than Newt in his stance on immigration.
GINGRICH: We should insist that first-generation immigrants who come here learn American history in order to become citizens. We should also insist that American children learn American history.
And then find a way to deal with folks who are already here, some of whom, frankly, have been here 25 years, are married with kids, live in our local neighborhood, go to our church. It’s got to be done in a much more humane way than thinking that to automatically deport millions of people.
HARRIS: Senator, your solution?
SANTORUM: Well, my solution is very similar to Newt Gingrich’s.
Could you post what Santorum said after that? I seem to remember him being opposed to a path to legal status for illegal aliens.
Bachmann 2012.
“Could you post what Santorum said after that? I seem to remember him being opposed to a path to legal status for illegal aliens.”
He sounds like he is “willing to have the discussion” of letting illegals stay but first wants to secure the border.
SANTORUM: Well, my solution is very similar to Newt Gingrich’s.
Look, I’m the son of an Italian immigrant. I think immigration is one of the great things that has made this country the dynamic country that it continues to be, people who are drawn because of the ideals of this country. And so we should not have a debate talking about how we don’t want people to come to this country, but we want them to come here like my grandfather and my father came here.
They made sacrifices. They came in the 1920s. There were no promises. There were no government benefits.
They came because they wanted to be free and they wanted to be good law-abiding citizens. So we have to have a program in place that sets that parameter that says, you’re going to come to this country, come here according to the rules. It’s a very good first step that the first thing you do here is a legal act, not an illegal act.
HARRIS: A quick follow-up, 30 seconds.
So there are 11 million people that — fait accompli. They’re here. What do you do with them if you are able to secure the border?
SANTORUM: Well, I think we can have the discussion, that whether what we do with people, how long they’ve been here, whether they had other types of records. But to have that discussion right now and pull the same trick that was pulled in 1986 — we said, well, we’ll promise to do this if you do that — no more. We are going to secure the border first, and that’s the most important thing to do, then we’ll have the discussion afterwards.
