In our “Argentinian” future, I predict that the .22 LR round will be the new dollar bill.
It is a smart idea for people to learn how to pack their own shells, too.
I'd also recommend purchasing one or two "spare" rifles. These would come in very handy if something should happen to your primary rifle, if you have a friend or family member who is in need of a firearm, or as a trade/barter item.
Surplus military rifles such as Mausers, Enfields, Mosin-Nagant's, '03 Springfields, and Garands are available at a number of gun shops nationwide. I'd recommend them for the fact that they are designed to be withstand rough treatment and still keep firing, plus surplus ammo can usually be found at fairly reasonable prices.
I bought 1000 rounds of .22 LR at Dick's sporting goods Black Friday sale for $30
Ditto's!
Cabelas has been having spectacular sales on some of the better .22 bulk ammo. I have seen the Federal 36 grain HP high velocity 375 round bulk pack on sale for $9.99. That is only 2.6 cents a round. Reviews of the Federal ammo have been quite good. The Cabelas sale seems to be an on again, off again type of thing. I have seen it on for several weeks of the last three months.
I purchased several thousand rounds as I used up the last of the Remington Peters .22 that I bought about 1980. Thirty year old .22 ammo worked great.
I've actually had the exact same thought.
You are right. If it gets bad enough a 22 round will put food on the table. Gold won’t.
Come now. Surely those will be like pennies, .38 wadcutter like quarters, and NATO rounds with soft points will be the new dollar.
