Finally, there is a voice of reason on immigration among the front-runners for the Republican nomination, who until last week's debate seemed to be competing with one another to see who could take the craziest stand against Hispanic immigrants.
Newt Gingrich, the front-runner of the moment as conservative Republicans seek an alternative for ideologically zigzagging second-place contender Mitt Romney, broke with the pack in the Nov. 22 CNN debate of Republican hopefuls by stating an obvious: It is realistically impossible, economically risky and ethically wrong to seek the deportation of all 11.2 million undocumented immigrants in this country.
Gingrich said that ultimately, the United States will have to find a system where, after securing the border with Mexico and launching a guest worker program to fill jobs that Americans won't take, "you need something like a World War II Selective Service Board that, frankly, reviews the people who are here."
"If you've been here 25 years and you got three kids and two grandkids, you've been paying taxes and obeying the law, you belong to a local church, I don't think we're going to separate you from your family, uproot you forcefully and kick you out," Gingrich said.
For people who have been in this country for 25 years, Gingrich offered a "red card" program that would allow them to stay in this country, but not to get citizenship. Others who arrived more recently would be deported, he said.

Well that statement says that you don't...but the fact is, in regard to Immigration, Amnesty is defined as that which means citizenship....which Newt has clearly opposed.
And how do you know the laws are unenforceable? Have you tried to enforce them lately?
Obviously the immigration laws are not enforceable....they are so engulfed with bureaucracy that anyone can find loopholes around at any given time..they are obsolete and ineffective in every way. Especially since Mexico's government has their legal teams throughout the US to fight enforcement of these for it's people here and they do so on a constant and successfully...that certainly isn't helpful.
Maybe give more freedom to the states to go ahead and pass their own Arizona style laws?
Then they simply move to the states who have not elected strong immigration laws....We have them now here where states have done so already. It won't work just shuffling them around.
Maybe make it mandatory for employers to check immigration status?
Yes, and Newt's addressed that very thing if you look at his plan, further he is open to hear any loopholes and such to shore it up tight so employers can check without hassles and legal issues.
Maybe make it a crime to hire an illegal or rent an apartment or sell a car to them?
Your repeating yourself here...but even so, we must be careful not to bite off our own noses to spite our face. If they have identification you cannot deny them or anyone a place to live..and I believe many landlords already have instituted guidelines on renters in that respect. Buying a car? You have to have ID already so your back to where the landlords and dealerships are not complying....that needs to be addressed when they don't and then you're on very tricky ground.
Maybe build a border fence, deploy the national guard,
This also Newt addresses and is for, as are most Americans.
So it seems your arguements are really based on not giving them citizenship at the heart of them...and Newt does not want to either.
Well, dumb a**, then they will all be deported for simply being here is a crime, add to that all of the document fraud they need to pull off just to stay here for 25 years or more and you have every single one of them committing felonies. Unless you are one of the idiots(including Newt)who thinks breaking our immigration laws isn't a crime.
He did not attack Paul Ryan’s plan....did you read the entire diologue or just accept the media spin? Go back and read it thru and you will see exactly what Newt was referencing and it wasn’t Ryan’s plan.
As for the healthcare mandate....post it here so all can see what your referencing because I don’t see it as you do. I see it as Newt is playing Obama...not all he states is going to happen but he’s surely going to line up the debates to go in his favor to knock that @ssh@le out of office...and that means laying things out there before hand to throw Obama off.
I determined to do some extensive work, hours in fact, on where Newt was, who spun what, what was real and what wasn’t concerning Newt.....nothing at all about being “snookered”.... I don’t believe the media far more than I don’t believe politicians...and those I question I will find out what is truth for what is important to me.
I have done so with Newt and convinced beyond question he is for our country....he is completely opposed to Obama and sees him exactly for what he is...and just like all politicians none are going to offer all that is important to me but Newt comes closest of any other candidates....and he can get the job done.
I'll go out on a limb and say that any Illegal that's been here 25 years with a desire to become a citizen has probably made some effort to become one.
Secure the border, E -Verify . Call me again in 2 years.
Your exatly right...I don't give a rats butt about those...it's plenty enough to know Newt opposes Cap and Trade.. and stood before the Committee refuting all that Gore has said about the whole ridiculous plot.
Further Newt opposes the EPA, who are the push behind all this nonesense, and wants it dismantled altogether. So that America can drill, and build and grow business and industry in our nation once more.
Now they are Cainbots after Sarah fizzled and Cain too will not mass deport
Were they sincere they would be Bachmann folks but she too has wobbled in the past on this and is hyping it now
I'm not so sure where Bachmann floundered along the way....but her desperation began playing out whenever she spoke and continues to. She lost some of her support when she went after Sarah..though some were quick to spin a yarn about that. Clearly she took a shot at Palin.
I was in Sarah's court for quite some time....but like with most there was a gnawing sense that crept up time and again she would not run...and you just couldn't shake it off. It was difficult to be sold out for her but as I saw it the best one out there at the time. Cain doesn't come close IMO and though “likable” the it isn't there for the long haul and folks do see this.
I think hopes were very high someone would run without all the political entailment's...however as this nation nosedived and continues to do so it's become apparent one has to determine what the country needs over what ones personal hopes are otherwise.....I'm for our country first...and it needs an individual who can turn this ship...nobody has the “it” Newt does...and he dumped his so called “baggage” back aways... any remaining just isn't significant to that which he brings to the table to defeat Obama and get us back on track.
Simple. You don’t pass everify you don’t get the job or welfare. Hire someone and fail to use e verify and they turn out to be illegal you go to jail.
Then for the most part the 12 million (more like 30 million) will leave on their own.
Copy Mexican boarder laws to keep them on their side of the boarder.
But I found many of her vocal pals here obnoxious...and most of them are now Cain folk...not all...a few have gone Newt like us
I criticized Sarah for a few things and started to doubt she would run and was essentially called son of Satan here for that candor by some we are now fighting with for Newt
Its not really surprising. I have come to the same conclusion as you on the it factor
Newt had spoken in more than platitudes about immigration and many here hold to the idea we will deport 20 million folks
It will not happen....something between that and amnesty
They tout Wetback....they should go back study how that went....its not like folks
ks claim
Self deporting is more effective and accounted for 95 percent of the 1M or so who left
5) For recent and future illegal immigrants, the key apparent features of the Krieble Planthe unlimited number of red cards and the ease of obtaining them**effectively means something close to open borders. Millions of impoverished workers now living abroad could flood the U.S. labor market legally. Kriebles plan is similar to the Papoon for President drug plan, which would eliminate all illegal drugs by simply making them all legal. Krieble similarly ends illegal immigration effectively legalizing it (a country where theres no more illegality, as Gingrich put it).
Yep, Newt is speaking out of both sides of his mouth by saying only a few old-timer illegals would get amnesty while he also endorses the Kriebel plan.
6) In embracing the Krieble plan, Gingrich fatally abandons the logic of enforcement first, which is that if you secure the border you can eventually have an amnestybecause the secure border will then be able to keep out future waves of wannabe illegals whom the amnesty will inevitably attract.
The Newt zombies were tearing into me yesterday for daring to question Newt's sincerity about border security first. And here it turns out he was insincere all along. A pox on all the Newt zombies on FR, where the only part of their brain still working is the bite reflex.
Had this column supported 'common-sense' gun laws, everyone on FR would be ripping into it. Common sense and liberals are exclusionary concepts. When a liberal espouses something as common sense, it is anything but.
You know, if I was embracing a proposal by my preferred candidate, and liberals were lining up to embrace it as well, I'd take a moment to reconsider that proposal. But for some, they just have to attack anyone who dares question the profound wisdom and intellect of Sir Newt.
I do think there are many areas of Newt's plans which will include those things which will do just that. It's not just one area he's addressing...there will be areas of target where results will come quickly...and other areas that will simply take time as well as adjusting to determine if these are working or not...it'll surely be fluid for a time until the dust settles and you can be sure the dust will be more than stirred in certain areas.....as we see Newt putting his plan out there just did!
Yes, Palins threads did get rather thick there for a time....which is never healthy for vetting or debating...I recall one thread where I swear you could see the drewl hanging off their lips! Went way beyond my taste in what supporting a candidate is about...so I didn't venture many of the threads for awhile there...though I was pinged and could stay current with what Palin was doing.
I'm not sure what makes people move beyond passion for a candidate and the zeal of their possible being elected and hopes they might bring... to that of obsession like. But we did see the later....many were put off by that..I agree.
It's not about that at all...it's about knowing the intentions are not debating or discussing or even vetting a candidate....especially when they have their own preferred candidate.
It's also knowing those who's intentions are to discredit one of our own....like them or not. Motive is the key....and for some that motive is all too obvious. It never changes from thread to thread.
I have no candidate at the moment. Nice try. You just want to deflect from the fact that Newt stepped in it and all but his most ardent supporters realize that.
It's also knowing those who's intentions are to discredit one of our own..
Newt is discrediting himself with a phrase liek 'path to non-deportation' - I have found that in these debates, the ones playing games with the English language are the ones up to no good.
Im very proud of all those here being reasonable
Primary season this year Is rivaling 99/00 in its ugliness and lies...course no wideawakes exodus yet like 07
But we will know soon enough
So tell us how Newt's proposal would promote self-deportation. He seeks to reward those who came in immediately after the last amnesty to wait for the next one.
Selt deportation is best driven by a lack of carrots. Newt puts out a big one.
Well of course they would .....Newt's very much aware of the possibility of more coming to the border and that with any plan that even remotely looks like America is finally going to address the illegal issue...it always happens....it stirs the nests.
.so that's no news whatsoever....so why put it out there in the first place when you know you'll get slammed? Some people enjoy abuse...they wear it like a badge. I'll assume you're not one of those?
Zombies do that. All bite, no brain.
I think there are some here who get so caught up in “verbage”, before the plan is finalized or to be worded and worked so it can be effective, that they do as much harm against ever getting to first base.......it’s a wierd sort of “enabling” the illegals directly and indirectly.
