(ENGLISH TRANSLATION): US Presidential Candidate Newt Gingrich, Republican, For The Regularization of Immigration Status for Millions" In the Al Momento Noticias by El Molino - 11/23/2011 8:36 AM
Two things became clear after the conclusion of the eleventh televised debate of Republican candidates, that Newt Gingrich is emerging in the polls, Mitt Romney moving to, and that he understands the importance of the Latino vote in United States to reach the White House in 2012.
Last night, risking the wrath of the Tea Party rightwing who have set the tone on immigration in the debates, Gingrich took a position which he described as "humanitarian."
We reproduce his words, that rule this time there were the boos he received when Rick Perry also said many Republicans "have no heart" on the issue of immigration.
I do not understand how the party that claims to be the party of the family can take a position on immigration that destroys families who have been here a quarter century. And I'm prepared to accept criticism by saying, 'we are human to implement the law without giving them citizenship but finding a way to create no separate legal status for their families.' "
"I do not think that the people of United States going to take people who have been here a quarter century, who have children and grandchildren, who are part of the community who may have done something 25 years ago, separated from their families and drive them away.
"If you came recently, and you have no roots in this country, then you must go. But here is the point. But let's say the person has been here 25 years, has three children, two grandchildren, pays taxes, respects the law, is part of a local church - I do not think they're were are going to split up, cut and eject such a family.
"The Krieble Foundation has a magnificent red card program that says it can be legalized without being a path to citizenship. So we managed to have a country where there is no illegality, without any amnesty given automatically to anyone. "
Later Gingrich said:
"I want to tell the people, 'go home'. I want to create a border controlled. I want a guest worker program that can manage American Express, Visa or Mastercard. I want to make English the official language of government. I am willing to be rigid. But I will not pull on somebody's hair and tease them. And I can not imagine any serious person in this country who believes that we must destroy families who have been here 20 or 25 years."
Newt Gingrich has spoken in favor of some aspects of the DREAM Act, which would give citizenship to people who came to the United States without documentation of children.
Were Gingrich to get the Republican nomination, this new political perspective poses serious problems for the reelection of President Barack Obama not long ago who said his "strategy" is to get the Latino vote would only reproduce extracts from comments of the Republican candidates on immigration.
For answers, we need look no further than Alabama.
Mexico destroys family not America.
It is a failed state.
Both the Alabama and Arizona attempts to enforce illegal immigration laws have been admirable, imo. They have forced their illegals to flee...to other states. The Feds have stymied their attempts to have any impact..
It is a Federal obligation to enforce this law. I think we agree on that.
But unless the Feds come up with a plan that will actually be enforceable..I don't see that there will be an answer that most in this country will support.
IMHO, end the anchor babies, chain migration, benefits to illegals, enforce employer penalties=self deportation. But that would have to happen on a national level.
But if people have been here most of their lives, paid taxes, took no public assistance...perhaps there should be some assistance. Not blanket amnesty. Not citizenship.
I have appreciated our civil discourse.:) Doesn't happen often these days.
There is no reason why it shouldn't. But you are right, it doesn't happen much and I appreciate it also.
Bedtime for Bonzo.
Have a good night.
You have a good night as well. :)
Young people used to go home for the holidays. To the house they grew up in and had so many fond memories. It felt good to be with your family and the friends you grew up with.
Now, young people go to their parents house for the holidays. Their house is theirs, you have no attachment to it or the neighborhood because Americans were forced to move out of Los Angeles when Mexicans moved in.
The old neighborhood is unrecognizable with the smell of tamales in the air on Christmas morning.
And Gingrich feels for the invaders.
Those who have come here through the Legal process, and have assimilated themselves to the American ways, who are loyal to America and the US Constitution we consider as Americans just like you and me.....
“Applicants must first pass a criminal background check”
How could any illegal pass such a check ? They entered the country ILLEGALLY or overstayed their visa ILLEGALLY! They have either NOT PAID TAXES, which is illegal, or they committed identity theft by using someone else’s SS#.
Either way, they have committed multiple crimes.
I’d like to think Newt is being clever to get the Latino vote, knowing nobody will actually qualify and must be deported after all. Unfortunately, I think it much more likely that any such “regularization” bill would amnesty them from any crimes RELATED to their being here illegally. So identity theft, fraud, tax evasion ... all will be forgiven as necessary to make this grand new amnesty plan workable. Only the most violent crimes will cause their rejection under this new amnesty.
Just because they don’t get citizenship doesn’t mean it isn’t amnesty. If they are not held accountable to the law as it existed at the time they violated it, they are getting amnesty. The law they violated REQUIRES deportation and anything else IS AMNESTY.
I say, putting more burdens on the tax payer who has had family here for generations, or was born here who abide by the law is what is called : heartless and inhumane.
I agree, send any illegal alien and their children home first, if they are on any public assistance.
Our government already knows where they live and knows the parents are illegal.
“paid taxes”
Either they didn’t pay taxes and are guilty of tax evasion, or they paid taxes using somebody else’s SS# which is fraud, perjury, and identify theft. Americans who commit these crimes are imprisoned, yet foreigners should get a free pass for doing the same thing ? So even the people who were brought here as children began breaking the law of their own choice when they became adults.
Yes, I did. And Newt’s plan is amnesty.
As Amnesty has been previously described, I disagree. It is not citizenship, voting rights and full benefits, however, if you listened to Rush on Wednesday, he opined, wondering just how long it would take the ACLU lawyers to file for the full monty. So there is much more to the issue.
I think the separating families talking point is a bastardized issue. To me it is an issue of choice. You have a choice, the illegal leaves, or you all leave. simple. After all if you chose to hook up with an illegal, you are part of the problem. I guess I’m heartless.
What could be more heartless than letting the country self destruct financially, because of an open border.
A system like Gingrich suggests is not humane: it sets up an entire class of people as non-citizens in our nation. That is wrong.
What this really is, is an attempt to appease businesses who use illegal alien labor, period.
If Gingrish cannot follow the law like any leader is supposed to instead of coming up with tortuous schemes to circumvent the law, then he isn’t worthy to be President of the U.S.A.
I just had to post this a second time. You stated this so clearly everyone should understand it. Thank you!
