Wonder what those slaves in the pens were doing when they saw Irwin McDowell leaving Washington and marching toward Fairfax in July of 1861?

I imagine they may have been thinking, "I sure do hope that someone kicks those southron devils to the curb so that we can get our freedom".

Very funny, but not accurate. The US Congress was right there, along with the Supreme Court, and the President.

All of those entities were keeping them enslaved....the South had seceded and was no longer involved in their lives.
