“Slavery has been ended in the North long before 1861.”

Actually slavery did not end in the norther State of Kentucky until the ratification of the 13th amendment on December 6th 1865. AFTER the war had ended.

Wonder what those slaves in the pens were doing when they saw Irwin McDowell leaving Washington and marching toward Fairfax in July of 1861?
