Newt Gingrich may face backlash in Iowa over immigration comments

DES MOINES — Having just taken his place at the front of the Republican presidential pack, Newt Gingrich now faces a potential backlash from conservative activists here in Iowa over an immigration proposal that he called “humane” but that his opponents quickly decried as providing “amnesty.”

The former House speaker appears to have alienated some of the conservatives who had warmed to his candidacy by saying Tuesday in a candidates debate that he would allow millions of illegal immigrants who have settled in the United States to become legal residents.

“None of it though, so far as I can tell, changes the plain fact that Herman Cain isn’t going to be the GOP nominee.”

You’re right. Or at least it sure looks that way.

Heh, welcome to Newt’s ‘heartless’ moment.

Ain’t so fun to hear someone speak the truth and see many that you thought of as allies turn on ‘em.

It’s mainly because most Americans don’t know what their political beliefs actually *ARE*. Even here I see it.

At a Conservative website, people talk *LOUDLY* about how amazingly conservative they are... and then *DEMAND* that our government must expand to do more of what they want.

Which is completely against the principles of having a small government concerned with it’s Constitutional duties. (a very Conservative ideal)

This is a rehash of the turn of the last century, back when millions of eastern Europeans flooded the streets of America.

They assimilated and became Americans.

The only difference between then and now is that our bloated, overreaching government is giving these immigrants everything they need to not assimilate. Money, health care, schooling, and housing.

Strip that from them... and they get treated just like all the previous immigration groups. And they’ll assimilate, because if they don’t learn English and fit in with society, they won’t be able to get and *KEEP* a job.

Which would then lead to no food, no shelter, and no health care.

A couple of months ago, I was watching C-SPan. There was an eighty year old rancher who lived near the border. This is what he described of his daily life: he has to sleep with a gun by his bed, he keeps a gun by the door, he keeps a gun when he drives in his car and he takes a shotgun when he goes riding on his ranch, but he said that even with a shotgun he will leave if he sees anybody approach him.

The same violent criminals that are beheading people in Mexico are also here in the United States threatening American citizens. Where is Newt’s compassion for them?

We have to stop the job/welfare magnet that is drawing illegals into our country by passing E-Verify and we have to say NO NO NO to lying two-faced politicians like Newt Gingrich.

I agree with you totally, but when we speak of securing our borders we also have to mention internal enforcement because the open borders weasels like Gingrich, McCain and others have caught on that everybody knows that the borders are violent and out of control, but they are still trying to sell the “compassion” for illegals nonsense.

Enforce our laws using E-Verify and other laws that make it difficult for them to remain here and they will deport themselves. As far as being “humane” with illegals, it is their responsibility to deal with their problems. Let them go to immigration lawyers and let them pay it them with their own money. It is THEIR problem, not ours.

Just imagine that millions of Egyptians decided to move into ancient Israel. Are you telling me, that the Hebrews would have welcomed them with open arms? Get real. That quote applies to foreign travelers, not masses of foreigners moving into Israel.

Once E-Verify is passed many illegals will see the light and start packing. Even months before the passing of E-Verify, the discussion in the media will start scaring many of them into leaving. We have to convince the illegals that we are serious this time, and we have to do that by electing a Presidential candidate who is strong on enforcement by attrition. In order to keep the politicians honest, we have to give them hell fire every time they start to sound weak on enforcement. We have to keep reminding them of the many tragedies visited on Americans by illegal aliens. The illegals have the media on their side as well as politicians and cheap labor employers. There has been a very skilled public relations campaign that make illegals seems very sympathetic and purposely omits the harm done to American citizens by the huge illegal invasion. We have to play up the sympathy for American victims so that illegals will not be empowered.

How about showing some humanity to us,we the people of the United States of America?

Do we not deserve humane treatment? Or are we just here to pay for others?

Goldstate, the thing I truly don’t understand is what good having illegals here does. Some businesses like having them,I guess, but overall,it seems to be a burden on us,the American people. Businesses that use illegals can undercut businesses who follow the laws. So isn’t that a double standard? Isn’t that anarchy? As long as those conditions continue,we don’t have an orderly society. The rule of law is void.

They are a real drain on the taxpayers and also bring down the level of education in our public schools.

We don’t need them to do our jobs. Perhaps people who have never been working class don’t understand that if you need to pay rent and eat, you’ll do any job. So I believe we are being lied to,that they do jobs Americans won’t, ( I’ve done very hard jobs, equal to those they prate about and harder)but why would they insult Americans that way??

I don’t understand.

but I don’t believe they will self-deport.

Make this national and you will see.

Just the knowledge that Alabama intends to enforce immigration law in the future has sent illegal aliens packing.

This is not a rehash because the immigrants in the time you speak of came here legally and did not want to change the language to that of their country of origin, didn’t insist they owned this continent, didn’t expect taxpayers to fund them while they worked without paying taxes and respected our immigration laws.

Do you not understand?

They do not want to assimilate, unlike past generations. They want us to bow to them. Our political enablers encourage that.

You are right, there are tremendous differences between traditional immigrants who come and have come here and the lawlessness and rape of us American who are trying to care for our own families and are forced to care for people who come here illegally and their children.

In times past, our parents, grandparents and greatgrandparents didn’t take from the taxpayers. They supported their own. They learned to speak English as well as they could and insisted that their children speak it and be loyal to this country.

In fact, speaking of taxes,my grandparents were all born before there was any income tax in this country. In the previous century.

The IRS would take your house and toss you, your kids and the family dog out in the cold on the coldest night in January. No mercy for you, no sympathy stories in the local newspaper.

Before the “Guest Worker Plan” and the “Review Board”, will he make sure that none of them are Communists, none of them are intent on Jihad? None want Reconquista?

None of them have any communicable diseases? They won’t require routine medical care, such as obstetrics,on the backs of we,the American people?

Can they all speak English so that when their children enter school, our children won’t have to be held back because of their linguistic limitations?

Will they pay their own way? They and their children will not get any money forced from American families who are trying to provide for their own chilren? No “free” school breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks? No “free” medical care, while Americans go without?

Just a few thoughts about the subject...

He has NO idea what “humane” means. Apparently,to him,Americans don’t deserve “humane” respect.
