Newt Gingrich may face backlash in Iowa over immigration comments

DES MOINES — Having just taken his place at the front of the Republican presidential pack, Newt Gingrich now faces a potential backlash from conservative activists here in Iowa over an immigration proposal that he called “humane” but that his opponents quickly decried as providing “amnesty.”

The former House speaker appears to have alienated some of the conservatives who had warmed to his candidacy by saying Tuesday in a candidates debate that he would allow millions of illegal immigrants who have settled in the United States to become legal residents.

Fly them home and bill the home country for the full cost of repatriating them.

I have been saying this for years. Charge the native countries (and Mexico for enabling such) X dollars per month per illegal in addition to a re-patriating charge. Extra charges for violent criminals and repeat offenders. And when they are sent back to Mexico, chose the southern most city in Mexico to drop them off.

If this idea is actually enforce-able, then the Mexican Federales will guard our borders for us.

Gingrich is NOT a dumb man. This was not a “slip”. He brought up this issue on purpose. Why is that? Any theories out there?

And to take it one step further, advise the local police forces that the will be reimbursed for enforcing the immigration laws and helping to deport the illegals with this new found revenue.

The Clintons! They taught some of us that it is best to get your dirty laundry out FIRST and EARLY and control the spin on it and put it behind you and then move on. An old classic tactic. It worked pretty well for them.

Newt is worse than Romney.

First he is a corrupt insider as shown by the money he got from Fannie/Freddie and his ethics problems while in Congress. He is what the Tea Party is against and voted out in the 2010 election.

Second, Romney has gone to the right. Newt has gone to the left. And Romney is not a serial adulterer.

I am supporting Cain and have given him money. But if forced to choose between Newt and Romney, Romney wins hands down.

___________________________________________

Considering that you're talking about up to 12,000,000 people, I have a few questions....

1)Fly them from where - commercial airports or USAF bases?

2)Will we be constructing holding camps at airports or on air bases?

3) What do you do if the home country doesn't want them back - if they refuse to authorize the flights? Do we invade, drop the cargo off then take-off?

4)What about those illegals from EU countries and Asian countries and African countries and South American countries? Do we jeopardize relations with all these by forcing re-patriation?

5) What Law Enforcement Agency handles this? Do we create a new Federal Agency and arm them? What powers do we give them?

6) Do we send families back intact or split them up?

7)What do you do when Mexico says we don't want them - how long do you keep them in the detention/repatriation camps - one year - five years - twenty years?

Life would be so easy if it were not for reality.

Newt wants the Hispanic vote.

From his website “The Americano” / Gingrich Communications

Michael Moore Salutes Our “Hispanic” Veterans
http://theamericano.com/blog/author/humberto-fontova/

The Americano is a bilingual site that offers a different take on news and opinion. It looks to offer a more balanced view on all the issues that concern American Hispanics today, while celebrating the richness of Hispanic Heritage. It is a place where people can express themselves and read about similar traditional principles.

We have gathered a fantastic group of journalists and experts to offer you smart information on all the important aspects of Hispanic life.

The Americano is a company of Gingrich Communications.

Indeed, we already let illegals be blackmailed by the
Mexican government run cartels, we might as well get
to make them pay us first. This is all hypocrisy.

When Bush said ‘they do jobs we do not do”, I
retorted “No, that YOU Bushiite do not do”.

Guess what. We got an illegit fraud foreign prez to
power that he is now forced to kiss butt to so as
to not end up as a war criminal trial run by extremists.

Yeah, Romney hates us, and Newt will just vote for
an illegal in his stead. And he harps about leadership?

These moron Rinos are not even conditioning getting ahead in the Carnival Anarchy, they sit on side lines like groupies without self respect of Democrapes.

We need a comprehensive plan for illegals, instead of knee jerk slogans. Don't get me wrong I like the "let's ship'em all back to Mexico" idea. But that's not going to work and you know it. We got 20 million uneducated illegals, now what? Pretend they'll go away?

Newt gave us a real plan. What does Romney, Cain, and the rest have? .......Pretend they'll go away.......

No. No other candidate has expounded on their deportation plan other than to stress removing “magnets” many of the magnets will be challenged in court which could take years and with the liberal judges..look out. Of course each state should refuse medical care, fine employers that knowingly hire illegals and there should be an data bank with identification of citizens that could be used for tracking. I have been waiting for the Cain/Bachman folks to tell me how their candidates plan to deport millions and millions?
How Much Does it Cost to Deport 392,000 People?

By Elise Foley
Thursday, October 07, 2010 at 4:08 pm

Roughly $9.2 billion, according to figures from a March report on the per-immigrant cost of each step of the removal process. The numbers are estimates, of course, but it is still useful to illustrate the high costs behind the record number of deportations the DHS announced yesterday.

There are a number of costs involved in the removal process. First, illegal immigrants must be apprehended, which requires local law enforcement, Border Patrol and a number of Immigration and Customs Enforcement programs and offices. Next, they must be detained, and then processed through the legal system. Finally, illegal immigrants must be transported back to their native countries. Here are the per-person costs listed in the Center for American Progress report released in March:

Apprehension: $18,310
Detention: $3,355
Legal processing: $817
Transportation: $1,000

In total, that’s $23,480 for each of the 392,000 people the U.S. removed last year, or $9,204,944,000.

Of course, many of those deported were convicted criminals, meaning they would have had imposed high costs had they remained in the country. While numbers vary from state to state, on average it costs at least $60 per day (or $1,800 per month) to incarcerate prisoners.

You will get flamed...but the reality is that those who scream”NO amnesty , no way” ignore what reagan did and do not want to answer the question of “How do you deport 30 million illegals?”

the reality is that Newt and Perry are right on this.
Secure the border, enforce the existing laws, deport criminal illegals, and give the rest a green card and tell them to get in line.

It is disingenuous to start screaming about how for 25 years the illegals are the only criminals in this...we “allowed and encouraged them to come”—Farmers, corporations, Dems and republicans wanted them here to work and did not enforce our borders and having a defunct immigration policy that did not deal with our worker needs with work visas, etc. This country can’t go retroactive now and just ignore what we have allowed for 25 years.

Regardless, get this mess straightened out now with some reality based actions. IF the border were truly secured, THEN is the time to talk about what to do with the people here.

You are correct.

Self deportation is already happening. If we do that and secure the border...the rest will get a green card.
the two main problems are that our immigration system is not working AT ALL and our border is not secure.Fix those two things and the problem is all but solved.

If we don’t fix the immigration system and our border, we just have the same problem over and over.

You and I are in complete agreement about Laura’s RINO-Loving views, but she completely castigated Newt on this issue on her radio show before Newt decided to toss his hat in the ring. But, you may indeed be correct here. Laura may have a bit of amnesia and indeed cover Newts posterior.

I still think Laura’s got stars in her eyes for Mittens. Will see.

BTW...Happy Thanksgiving to you and all FREEPERS!!

Let me just ask one question....
Do you have your rights because you are a citizen or because ALL MEN are CREATED Equal and ENDOWED by their creator?
This issue is NOT the first time our statutes have not been in keeping with our Declaration.
And an unjust statute is no law at all.

That sounds like the pablum one reads on a La Raza forum. So every person "created" on this planet has an automatic right of American citizenship? Who are you and why are you on Free Republic?

Only if they can control the media spin otherwise they will stumble and it will eat them alive. The media was in Clinton's corner so that helped. The media will help out Gingrich and Romney so long as they continue to serve as useful idiots to the MSM's end. Again IMHO.
