Intelligent people understand that Newt understood the illegal imigration problem and just rounding up 11 million plus, loading them in railroad boxcars and ship across the border could never happen. So what is the solution? Using just a reasonable amount of intelligence makes sense and folding those that are good people into the system is better than leaving them out. After all, millions of people left Cuba and the criteria was if they set foot on our soil, they are granted amnesty. What the hell is the difference and quit that shi! of legal BS.

And insulting the "non intelligent" people makes them run right out and vote for Newt. LOL

Intelligent people also know that to give legal status to the ILLEGAL hordes who are here will result in an even greater burden on the American taxpayer. No thanks.

An economy on the brink of collapse and we are arguing over immigration. We fall into the left’s trap every time. Keep the subject off the economy and our attention focused elsewhere and they win. Newt’s views on the economy and how to fix it are important at this time. Worrying about what his position is on immigration is short-sighted. If this economy, deficit and debt isn’t dealt with nothing else will matter.

Even if we did a mass deportation, we would be spinning our wheels. It would be criminal stupidity to spend the money rounding them up and deporting them without the border sealed. We have neglected the border for so long, it has been embedded in the culture to cross the border, work a few years and cash in on the good life back in Mexico with the money saved in Mexican banks.

In the same way, Americans take advantage of the cheap Mexican peso and standard of living. How many know about retired U.S. citizens buying a villa for dirt cheap and living in Mexico? How many know what a “snowbird” is?

How many go down to Mexico to buy cheap leather goods and velvet paintings of Evis Presley? The dollar goes far in Mexico. That's why Mexican are crossing the border to come into the U.S.A. They want to save up that American dollar so they can take it and live the good life in Mexico.

Any change from the long standing border situation would cause changes that would have consequences not even anticipated. For that reason, there must be practical questions about any radical changes. I am not even sure what would happen if we sealed the border. Would the Mexican government then reciprocate by throwing out such people as American “snowbirds” and putting a squeeze on other Americans wanting to go into Mexico for various reasons?

The next big question is, what would Mexico do if suddenly we started deporting millions of illegals back into Mexico? How would Mexico be able to handle the influx of people? Would they say, we can't deal with it and put a stop to it? I can picture absolute chaos in Mexico with a few million illegals back into the country in a short period of time. Our relations with Mexico would be disastrous if our deportations caused an economic catastrophe in Mexico. We cannot act recklessly.

"Intelligent people understand that Newt understood..."

For being such an intelligent guy, Newt sure has poor judgement. Requirement #1 for any executive position is sound decision making. That's what Presidents do - they make decisions. Requirement #2 is personal integrity. They need to put the good of the organization (or country) ahead of their own ego and personal gratification. Newt is woefully thin in both areas.

That amnesty he rubber-stamped back in 1986 is a big part of what caused the issues we now have with illegal immigration.

Do intelligent people understand that enforcement of laws prohibiting the hiring of illegals will solve both the illegal immigration problem as well as the problem of high unemployment?

This is not really about illegals for many here, it's just a tool to beat Newt with since their new favorite Cain has collapsed.

What Newt said is no different than what any of the others except Bachmann have opined. She is the ONLY one calling for deporting all illegals.

Newt was giving an idea on what to do with all these folks in combination with getting a handle on the border and enforcement.

But no one here except a few ever much care about nuance when soundbites will do...especially in primary season.

Sarah Palin was the choice here before she opted out and her position on illegals was the same as Newt's and she endorsed the biggest amnesty supporter in the GOP for senator...and the pack here never uttered a peep in protest

Newt has not called for amnesty but rather who to deport or not and a way to account or document these millions in conjunction with other means.

Only Bachmann calls for round ups. It sounds good but ain't gonna happen.

Best we can hope is to send back the newer ones like Newt and others say and lock the door best we can.

For Perry and Mitt to admonish Newt on immigration ideas is hilarious...and hypocritical. Nowhere has Newt called for in state tution for illegals and Mitt has before called for path to citizenship himself.

It is too bad Bachmann can't get traction...she is ideologically my first pick..even over Palin likely.

We are left dealing with what we are left with and immigration there is not a scant of difference but on capability there is a world of difference and Newt stands out. Cain is weak as a candidate....in my view.

One last note...some of the same folks here today railing on and on about illegals were the exact same folks 6 years ago calling folks like me who opposed the Bush-McCain-Kennedy amnesty (again Sarah's endorsement..but nevermind right?) bigots and racist evene though we warned the ramifications of how latinos vote as a rule. We were even called anti Catholic for opposing them..since these freepers were sure these Catholic illegals would naturally be conservative....and I after a dustup over Tony Snow's pro amnesty pontifications was zotted..along with a few others...for a long zot...a year,

Now some of these same folks have the nerve to say FU to Newt and clamour over the illegals question and call for zots again but this time from the complete opposite position?

It's defies logic...nothing personal.

It is very difficult to follow truth and consistency here over the years especially at election time.

New freepers and older ones with bad memories need only review the 2000 election here for a lesson in fickleness and the circuitous nature of preferred candidates here.

This forum was wrong on Sarah...she did not run and did misstep some...she was never perfect and don't forget the same folks now waging war on Newt here waged it on pro deportation Bachmann when she was seen as a threat to Sarah...lol

And now they have gone to Cain...mostly...no all...but the forum was wrong on Cain...he is simply a soft candidate...and was to me always an identity pick...from jump street

and now the forum will be wrong about Newt...I for one think he can articulate the complicated ideas about how to resolve this issue and ideas that will win politically regardless of what we here might hope for regardless of the political impossibility

Sarah Palin on illegals;

Sarah Palin: There is no way that in the US we would roundup every illegal immigrant - there are about 12 million of the illegal immigrants - not only economically is that just an impossibility but that's not a humane way anyway to deal with the issue that we face with illegal immigration.

Why was she not lambasted here? ..lol...because it's not about truth and consistency or immigration either here...it's about promoting the candidate the pack prefers...truths be damned basically

I can go on...reams of soundbites from all but Michelle aping exactly what Newt said except some like Perry and Mitt offer even more goodies for illegals

Forum simply hates Mitt and loves Cain. Fine but Cain ain't coming back..Perry neither.

Seems like the new laws in Arizona and Alabama are sending the families back to their homelands pretty quickly.

Florida, my home state, currently has like legislation ready to pass. The illegals here don't assimilate into the population. Most of them don't speak or understand English. They live in enclaves and send their kids to school expecting the schools to teach them English. They manage to manufacturer their own Social Security Numbers, fake their driver's license and never file a tax return (they simply don't know how). Most want to work for cash. If you go to our local Social Security Office you see entire families-from Grandma down to the 3 month old baby and 5-6 kids in between waiting to fill out forms to collect what ever benefits they can from the Government.

Illegal Immigration is costing the Taxpayer an enormous amount of money and adding to our National Debt. Allowing them to become legal, in what ever fashion Mr. Gingrich has in mind, will just add more benefits to their package of goodies and cost the American Tax Payer even more to allow them to live in our Country!

Newt - we don't need no stinkin Amnesty.
