The Gingrich Amnesty
NRO ^ | Nov 23, 2011 | Mark Krikorian

Missed the debate because of wrestling practice, but it’s hardly surprising that Newt would support amnesty for illegal aliens. After the Pelosi global-warming ad and Dede Scozzafava and “right-wing social engineering,” is it any surprise he’d adopt the left’s line on immigration too? He earned a career grade of D from Numbers USA (they calculate back to 1989). Heck, even Barbara Boxer has a career grade of D+.

.. So the Gingrich Amnesty would cover illegal immigrants here when Congress passed IRCA. That is to say, it would pick up where the previous amnesty left off, legalizing precisely those people who didn’t qualify for IRCA. This just underlines what a chump you have to be to support any deal offered you by amnesty supporters.

Which is why “enforcement first” is the only way to go: consistent, unapologetic, across-the-board enforcement of the immigration law at our consulates overseas for visa applicants, at the borders, and inside the country, especially at the worksite — without preconditions or deals or grand bargains.

How do you know they are all liberals? And how do you know they are all “second class” people? I’m guessing you support - who?

Anybody is free to follow illegals where ever they go.

No, they're not.

It is all urgent, so learn to walk and chew gum at the same time. This “plan” is just a variation on McCain/Bush amnesty, and it will lead to a flood of illegals coming north, just as Simpson-Mazzoli did.

“And how do you know they are all “second class” people?”

You missed the point completely. That is the argument that will be used to intimidate people into being silent as the program moves to phase two - citizenship.

“They’re coming anyway.”

Only if nothing is done. Defeatism assures nothing will be done. It looks like the political class’s psy-ops has been effective with you.

They may be stealing jobs, I don’t deny that.

My point is the humanity in all of this. I see Hispanic families in my church every Sunday, and am certain that a lot of them (based on where I live) are illegals. But there are also plenty of legal citizens that are not in my church every Sunday. Why deport the ones who are trying to live the American way, attend church and be productive members of society? They ADD to the America that we all seem to want, right? And frankly there are some “legals” that I would like to deport over some of these kind, God-and-family-first illegals!!! Deciding to deport on a case-by-case basis is the only way that America can really call itself ‘God’s country,’ not to mention a mass deportation would only serve to alienate many in the political center-right from conservatives. I understand the rationale behind a mass deportation but these are human beings you are talking about. We’re all God’s children.

A better word would have been "resident." I wouldn't dismiss the whole answer because he misspoke one word here.

I said they’re coming anyway because if this continues as we have seen over the years, it won’t make a difference if they come in droves because we’re finally addressing the issue or in spirts...they will get here anyway if things remain the staus quo.

Understand that my concern is not the hispanics half as much as it is the muslims coming thru. Only by addressing the border head on will this stop.

The border must be addressed head on, as you say. Unfortunately Bush betrayed us on this, which has made it easy for Obamalini to allow the northward tide to continue.

“I think we should let newt and perry have a knife fight to see which is the most in-favor of amnesty, there can be only one number one”

I think if we all listened closely last night most of the candidates say we will secure the border first and then decide what to do with those who are here. That is just chicken speak for what Newt had the guts to say. I am even leery of Herman’s vague working to citizenship idea which he never really fleshes out.

If you are waiting for Operation Wetback 2 you are dreaming. I have advocated rounding up all the illegals and shipping them back for years but the reality is that its never going to happen. We will probably have to identify the few as Gingrich says who can stay and then try to get as many as possible to self deport while keeping any more from coming.

I think we will all be shocked at how few will come forward. Most have no interest in becoming US citizens. Lets face it the only time you see the big protests is when the state immigration laws kick in which mostly encourage self deportation. The illegals are not out marching in the streets demanding citizenship. They are waving the Mexican flag. They just want to be able to stay here illegally and do as they please. They want amnesty not citizenship.

“The deportation/forced emmigration of 12 million people would be the largest migration in human history. Not going to happen.”

Maybe the second largest.

The largest migration in human history would be the 40 million (give or take a few million, but who’s counting, right?) that have invaded our fair land in the last 20 years.

If that many have migrated in, why is it impossible for them to migrate out?

“Still voting for Bachman whether she is candidate or not.”

Same here. She’s the most conservative in the race, and there in no one smarter in the line-up (including Neut) than she is.

I notice Rush has been touting her strenghts the last couple of days, as has Beck.

Church attendance has no place in the discussion.

Solutions that meet the definition of “christian” also have no place.

Humane and realistic, yes.

It is fantasy to think it would work that way.

I think you hit the nail on the head with any plan to deal with illegals.

The problem, however, isn't legislative will but court interference, which is the cause of most of our problems.

And that's what we should be talking about regarding illegals, and just about everything else.

I'd have no problem with supporting something like the federal DREAM Act IF it was done in conjunction with a national Prop 187 binding all levels of government and pre-approved by the Supreme Court, AND the overturning of Plyler v Doe

Fantasy? Sure, if it's not on the table.

If it goes on the table, however, the whole debate shifts a lot and it's the Atzlan/living Constitution/open border crowds that go on the defensive.

don’t expect freepers to actually read information...primary season is not about being informed and rational around here

I thought what Newt said was a start and practical but it gave the others who except Michelle are no different on this topic a chance to take shots at him

I agree with Gingrich on this in general.

The fine points are going to be how to determine who gets any status and how to prevent citizenship.

We can take steps to encourage folks to leave and make it hard for them but armed deportation of millions and millions en masse ain’t gonna happen.

Best shot is prompt to leave and then slower deportaions andexceptions as he declared.

but where to draw the line is the sticky party

a veritable briar patch for anyone...I liked how Perry used that term last night...anyone under 40 had no idea what he meant

Okey Doke! Rush was just playing a clip of Romney on “Meet the Press” back in 2006. Mitt said almost the same thing about Illegals that Gingrich and Perry said in the debate last evening.
