I misspelled David Fischer’s name while re-typing that excerpt.
It’s a cultural thing. Most black friends of mine do not use AC, either. I’ve asked them why, and they say they like to open their windows. I have black neighbors, and they do the same thing. Unless it’s really, really cold outside, they always have their windows open, rain or shine. I’ll see brand new cars with their windows down, even on the freeway, and they usually have black drivers.
