BW, I think if Huckster had NOT meddled, Romney would have won the nomination in 2008. Do you? If not, who else could have beaten McCain?

The two things that did Romney in in 2008 were Huckabee and Charlie Crist. When Crist endorsed McCain in Florida, that ruined Romney’s chances in that state....

Correct.

Which means Romney would already have been nominated, and would have lost and would now be out of our hair and Dole II (McCain) would have aged out.

YUP, no doubt. In fact, the talk at the time was that the Huckster stayed in the race because he did not like Romney. Interesting that the Huckster thought McCain was the best candidate to defeat the Democrats in 2008 .... so wrong, yet we are supposed to blindly follow his recommendation in 2012 that Romney is the best Candidate to beat Obama in 2012...

One thing did in Mitt Romney in 2008: Mitt Romney. Republicans didn't like him in 2008 and it is clear that he is no more popular in 2012. He can't rise about 20-25% in the polls because most Republicans will tell you that their favorite candidate is Anyone But Romney.
