We get what we vote for. The CIA has been politicized since the Church Commitee witch witch hunts in the aftermath of Vietnam. Even 9-11 couldn’t stop the nonsense. When Vice President Dick Cheney asked the CIA to look into reports that Saddam was trying to obtain yellowcake uranium in Africa, the CIA’s fecklessness ended in the lynching of his assistant Scooter Libby.
Bush eventually managed to assemble a team that could get useful intelligence information. But now, with the with the Dems back in charge of the Presidency, these functional professionals have been under constant threat of prosecution.
The good ones have retired, the other spooks with potential are too busy filling out TPS reports and attaching the correct coversheet.
