Family Says Police Killed Their Dogs and Slammed Grandmother to Ground
WHO-TV (NBC) Des Moines, Iowa ^ | November 18, 2011 | Aaron Brilbeck

Posted on 11/20/2011 5:50:57 PM PST by bamahead

Matthew Spaulding says he and his family were terrorized at their own home by police who slammed his grandmother to the ground and shot his dogs-- missing his head by less than an inch. "Told us to get on the ground. I got on the ground they put me in handcuffs," Spaulding recalls, "Then they threw my dad to the ground and my dog Sadie was right here sniffing my head. She was next to me. They shot her. The blood got on my face and then she took off running behind me and they shot her like three more times."

Tuesday morning, Greene County Sheriffs Deputies and Perry Police officers arrived at Spaulding's Jefferson farmhouse to deliver a search warrant. The Spauldings say they were immediately ordered to the ground.. even Matthew Spauldings' disabled father, Chris. "My son hit the ground I hit the ground but I didn't make it too fast so (the officer) jumped on the middle of my back, shoved his knee in and held a gun to the back of my head and handcuffed me. After they shot my first dog my mom come out"

"They had taken me to the ground," Chris Spauldings' mother Susan Mace says, "So I was laying with my face in the ground. And I asked them why they shot the dog because the dogs weren't close to them"

The Spauldings say after the first dog was killed, a second dog running away from the shots --- and away from police--- was also shot. "They weren't barking. They weren't attacking nobody." Matthew Spaulding says, "They didn't even give us a chance to put them in the kennel. We have a big kennel outside our house we could have put them in but they wouldn't give us a chance."

Perry Police are not commenting. And they're refusing to turn over any paperwork or reports about the incident saying it's part of an ongoing investigation. But we were able to get copies of the search warrants. One warrant shows police were looking for any kind of legal or illegal drugs. The other shows police were looking for a stolen X-Box video game system. No drugs and no stolen games were found--and no one was arrested.

Chris Spaulding says he's furious his dogs were killed--his mother was ruffed up and his son was almost killed by police---all over a missing video game system. "Some of these officers should be fired because they kinda took their job too far. No common sense. No public safety when you got a kid on the ground," he says, "That's messed up man. Right beside his head. You could have shot my son."

A C.I probably gave the cops the wrong address. This happens more often than you think.

Two warrants? One of which doesn’t even specify the specific drugs they were supposed to seize...anything ‘legal or illegal’?

Sounds more like a fishing expedition to me.

They weren’t looking for a stolen X-Box.

Mistakes like are inexcusable. You’d think a police stakeout of the location would have uncovered the truth. The city is liable for damages and it also faces a lawsuit. Its not easy to hold rogue cops accountable.

“A C.I probably gave the cops the wrong address. This happens more often than you think.”

Who cares they are suppose to be officers of the law not gossips. They need to conduct an investigation beyond what some informant said. Either the judge that issued the warrant or the cop that lied to the judge or both need to go.

And if they have a valid warrant, the need to behave reasonably why executing it. You see that execute means CARRY OUT, not you get to execute the dog. Chickens.

I LOVE dogs, but sorry, when this happens for silly reasons I honestly think the same # of cop dogs should automatically be put down, with the handler present.

Cop work now just “isn’t cool” if they can’t get gussied up in nomex kook gear and hurt innocent people.

When a country fights a long, low-intensity war, soldiers are ordered to act like cops, and the cops gradually begin to act like soldiers.

They are practicing on ordinary citizens. In another year they will be actually shooting the residents of the houses they "mistakenly" raid and they will get paid vacations as rewards for their efforts. This is part of our totalitarian future and it is not the far future.

Sounds to me like this kid has gotten into trouble before and probably ticked one of the cops off.

Payback is hell.

Certainly these cops didn’t pick this house out of the blue to go and harass.

They may be sorry they executed the dogs and started this fishing expedition.

Our house was raided by mistake by the King County Swat Team shortly after we moved in. They made a giant mess. I was gone. They held my wife against the wall while they searched the house. Fortunately our wiener dogs were contained. My wife was furious. We never received an apology or even a coherent explanation.

This kind of jackboot behavior is occurring more frequently. Local police have become militarized and seem to enjoy rolling out the SWAT gear every chance they get. These clowns ought to receive the harshest punishment possible for such inexcusable conduct. Also note these brutal types never miss an opportunity to kill family dogs, whether aggressive or not. Again, no excuse.

Yep, and the bootlickers will be here shortly to tell us how “RARE” and “unusual” these “mistakes” are.

I don’t hate the police. I hate jack-booted thugs with badges who think they are a para-military group, and we the public are mere civilians, and all suspects.

I once told a cop that called me a civilian that I was a CITIZEN, no less than he was, and the only difference between he and I was that he had been entrusted with enforcing the law.

Truncheons (nightsticks, for those in Rio Linda) don’t taste very good.

“Payback is hell.”

No pay back is illegal. And the punishment for crimes under the color of law are appropriately severe. Though apparently not severe enough to deter these criminals, if your conjecture was correct.
