Online Furor After Police Pepper-Spray Demonstrators at UC Davis
TIME Magazine ^ | 11/19/2011 | Nick Carbone

Posted on 11/19/2011 2:52:50 PM PST by NetLiberty

A non-violent protest at UC Davis turned chaotic Friday afternoon as police pepper-sprayed a group of students sitting on the ground. Videos shot at the scene show a policeman walking up to the protesters, pulling out his can of pepper spray to display to the crowd, and liberally sweeping the protesters with the stinging substance. Many students had their heads down, but at least one demonstrator was hit in the face. Other officers then followed suit, spraying many of the Occupiers who appeared to be sitting in a circle with their arms linked. By midday Saturday, videos of the showdown were circulating the Internet.

They weren’t sprayed for protesting, which is of course the right of every American. They were sprayed for blocking the sidewalk, which is a crime (California Penal Code 647c, Obstructing Sidewalk: “Every person who willfully and maliciously obstructs the free movement of any person on any street, sidewalk, or other public place or on or in any place open to the public is guilty of a misdemeanor”). If they had moved onto the grassy area nearby, it’s likely no arrest or spraying would have occurred.

Don’t be taken in by Enemy propaganda. This sort of action is designed to elicit sympathy from the general public. By pitting cute college kids “peacefully protesting for a cause” against overweight cops in black uniforms, the Enemy subtly draws you into siding with the useful idiots protesting against the injustices of the System. The supreme example of this tactic in action is the civil rights movement of the 1960s and the Kent State ‘massacre” in 1970.

Don’t let them fool you. OWS is no mass movement, no real protest. It’s all a carefully orchestrated program of psychological warfare aimed at you.

No, it is not. [Compare this to Syria]

No kidding. When I was a kid back in the early 70s I saw my dad get a 3 cop beatdown for refusing to get out of a car that was up on blocks in the backyard. He doesn't drink anymore but will tell you that when cops ask you to get out of the car, its a pretty good idea to do as they ask. LOL

You might want to get both sides of the story before you jump to conclusions (we wouldn’t want to be like Obama here blaming the white cop who acted “stupidly”, would we?...)

“UC Davis Police Chief Annette Spicuzza said officers used force out of concern for their own safety after they were surrounded by students...”

You've fallen for the oldest trick in the anarchists’ playbook. Under cover of the “peaceful” protesters (passive-aggressive is a more apt description), they deliberately escalate until they provoke a police response. Then they cry “police state!” to gain the sympathies of the “bourgeoisie” (that would be you and me). They use the same ploy time and time again, because it works. It helps that they have a massive propaganda arm (the MSM).

As the protesters might say: you need to have your consciousness raised.

You don’t spray people like they are insects. The police are going to be very sorry for doing things like this to people.

They rely on cooperation from citizens and when they ruin that relationship with Americans with Stalinish displays like this, their jobs will become a lot riskier.

They had every reason to remove the protestors from the sidewalk. They did not have the right nor the necessity to spray them like bugs in order to punish them. Courts punish. Cops arrest.

Effect is the right word. The cops too are probably Dims and union members who earn 500K a year and will get 550K a year in retirement benefits for the rest of their lives when they retire at 50. So why wouldn't they help out OWS by creating a video for effect?

You're sarcasm is dripping on my keyboard. Please stop or the shop boss will write you up.

The police should have used the opportunity to test the "Active Denial System." Either that, or give an entire K-9 school class a "field day."

but this is excessive and unnecessary police brutality.

Oh, give us a break! - maybe we are to beg them to leave?

Remember what these non lethal methods replace? Billy sticks & bullets - maybe you would like them back instead?

Don't know about all of you, but

I think that you know exactly about "us."

Funny!! LMAO,,
And for those who care, the cops were tearing down tent cities that were ordered to be removed. They made a few arrests, and the occutards formed that line to block the police as they tried to exit.

They are complete enemies of this nation, wish to create an American USSR, and deserved way more violence than they received.

“I take a back seat to no one here on conservative principles. “

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

A prerequisite for being conservative is understanding the issues, and letting facts determine your ideology. You have done neither, and therefore, you don’t qualify as a conservative. Don’t fool yourself into labeling yourself as such.

The police here were justified, restrained, and did their job well. The agitators were asked to move and did not. Like parents with children, you have to show them who is in control.

I can understand your point, but you are clearly ignoring these groups’ track record of late. Need I list their crimes and attacks on our public sensibilities here? You already know them.

I can’t stand “Dirty Harry Wannabes” any more than you; I get that and support your statement there. We need to maintain our right to freedom of expression, even if we vehemently disagree with the stance of a particular group.

However...........these a**holes are well-organized, coordinated, and have established themselves as violent troublemakers. I’d EASILY cut the cops some slack here and let them take out the trash without rebuke, and ONLY because of this established and clear-cut track record of the OWS crowd we’ve been witnessing for weeks.

That's exactly where we're headed and if you watch, you'll see the exact same clowns screaming that the police don't do enough.

Geeze, how many times is this going to be posted. And to see members of FR sympathizing with the occutards and wailing about police brutality is disappointing.

The “protesters” were asked to move, they refused, they were warned, they still refused to move, the police then dispersed the crowd and made arrests using non lethal force. What is the problem? This is not police brutality. These hippies will be fine and the pepper spray will have caused no permanent damage.

These “protesters” are putting the police in these situations on purpose in order to catch some Kent State moments on video. Your falling for it. This is not a case of police brutality in any way, shape or form.

“when police feel they can spray peaceful protestors like insects”

Peaceful protesters? Didn’t see any of those, but i saw a bunch of marxist obama street thugs, determined to destroy a free America, trying to prevent the cops from leaving with a few people they had arrested.

These are not “peaceful protesters”. They are defiant lawbreakers.

Commies think they are entitled to appropriate public property and dictate to all others how they must live their lives.

Why do you lie about and support evil lawbreaking scum?

“UC Davis Police Chief Annette Spicuzza said officers used force out of concern for their own safety after they were surrounded by students...”

Thanks for that quote. If that is what it is about then the use of force is okay. From the few comments I read (and the photo) it sounded like a bunch of folks were sitting in the road blocking traffic. In that case hand-cuffs is more appropriate than pepper spray IMHO.

You don’t understand.

They only want the police to brutalize the protesters that they do not agree with.

However, if the police were to do the exact same thing to people at a Pro Life rally, they would be opposed to such police brutality.

It is as if they love the First Amendment, but only when they agree with the views being expressed.
