Newt Gingrich’s campaign sought Friday to differentiate the former House speaker’s extramarital affair in the 1990s with that of Bill Clinton by noting that the former president committed perjury.
“Opponents often try to delegitimize Newt Gingrich by pointing out that he had admitted to having an extramarital affair during the impeachment of President Bill Clinton,” notes a new page on Gingrich’s campaign website that is devoted to explaining past controversies involving the Republican White House hopeful.
“What these accusers are ignoring is that the impeachment proceedings against President Clinton were due to the fact that the president committed perjury in front of a sitting federal judge, which is a felony. As the speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, Newt felt that he had a duty to uphold the rule of law by pursuing impeachment. He stands by that decision today.”

Newt is not in trouble over his personal morality, it his political morality Conservatives are worried about.

Who thinks he is Bill Clinton? Newt is going have to suffer through the grinder. This kind of thing guarantees that the press will use this to write about how he was worse than Bill Clinton which is something I don’t agree with at all. We are guaranteed to see plenty of articles this next month on the ‘Gingrich who would steal Christmas’. He’s seen as the front runner now and of course Mitt Inevitable isn’t going to get any real heat. They do the compulsory story here and there but the left is saving him for last. Mitt will be like a guy standing dumbfounded looking up into the giant Maw of a T-Rexalibersaurus when he gets his turn.

Gingrich isn’t as conservative as Clinton.
That is my biggest beef with Newt. Once the Clintons got his number Bill played him like a cheap fiddle politically.
Newt is a serial adulterer. Worse yet he likes to work with the other side. Not just on middle of the road issues...he has sided with them on many fringe and radical ideas like the global warming farce and mandated health care.
Newt is not trustworthy. How can we trust this man with our country if he can’t be trusted to be loyal to his own family.
