Newt Gingrich -- The Rhett Butler of the GOP?
Fox News ^ | 11/19/2011 | T. J. McCormack

Posted on 11/19/2011 4:40:33 AM PST by RoosterRedux

Newt Gingrich could very well be the GOP nominee for one very simple reason: He doesn't give a damn. He doesn't care what the media says about his campaign. He doesn't care that you shouldn't say Barney Frank should be arrested. He doesn't mind telling a CBS debate moderator he's lying...He couldn't give a flying fill-in-the-blank!

I've been saying for more than a year that the person who defeats the Billion Dollar Democrat will not do it with great speeches or flashy ad campaigns or by delivering a glib line on Jay Leno's couch. It's not going to be about with whom the voters want to have that proverbial beer. The person who defeats Barack Obama will do so in the debates.

In order to defeat Obama in the debates, the GOP nominee MUST be willing to stand at a podium on national television and do the following two things over and over: Tell the truth about the president and force him to run on his record.

It will fall upon the Republican nominee to force Obama to once and for all enlighten us about the many years of his academic life which have been happily redacted by the leftist media; to tell the world who he socialized with and to whom he was drawn ideologically.

The nominee must make Obama run against the NOMINEE and not congress, banks and so many fatcats. The nominee must use words like redistribution, apologist, transparency, mandate, fast, furious, socialism, division and class warfare. The nominee must make the president refute these words with facts not rhetoric. The nominee will have to chant "jobs-jobs-jobs" like a eastern chant, and remind people of the president's description of middle America as "clingers."

So far, Newt Gingrich has tied or won every single GOP
debate.

[Yes, we know that the MSM anointed Milt as THEIR “winner”
each time.]

The MSM wants Mitt because they know he’ll lose.

AND that, even if he wins, he will compromise, compromise and then compromise some more.

If you compromise with a mugger, you still get mugged.

If you compromise with a rapist, you still get raped.

If you compromise with a pro-abortionist, you still get abortions.

If you compromise with a progressive, you still get screwed!

I’m not a Newt fan, but I would rather have him than Romney any day of the week. And I do believe he would pummel Obama in the general...particularly if he had Cain as his running mate.

Newt is better than Obama. But my concern with Newt is his insider position.
Freddie Mac Money Bomb recipient, “money for nothing and the chicks for free!”

His easy money policies and loose girlie morals may place his campaign in Dire Straights when magnified by a hostile Obamophilic charged media.

Newt can talk the talk, but he will not walked the walk. “ Warshington” is home to Newt, and it suits him fine, just the way it is.

Newt Gingrich, younger than Bob Dole and John McCain put together and half as fresh.

Next?

Same attitude as Trump had when he was making noises about running. And look how popular he became.

Trying to make the media like you by being nice and not talking back won’t work.

Idiotic article. McCain was already dead and buried before the first debate. And Newt will likely be dead and buried before Iowa, once the base realizes what a fraud he is on the healthcare mandate, global warming, etc. - joining Perry and Cain as flashes in the pan. Can't say I am very optimistic right now. We need some kind of big break.

I’ve heard hints that Cain has a lot of upside room, if he can clear out the tangles in his local campaigns. He seems to have that intangible thing called soul, which is something that a lot of black people of good will do very well.

Article was spot on. If you don’t think the debates are becoming more important than ever before, you aren’t paying attention. And if you think Newt is in any way like McCain, you aren’t thinking clearly. Newt has his warts, no doubt. They have ticked me off for years.

However, he has had great moments as the leader of the conservative movement, something McCain (nor Dole) could never lay claim to. He has also been known for decades as one of the best speakers on conservative principles anywhere.

In other words, McCain (and Dole) just have the bad. Newt has a mix of the good and the bad. And when he’s good, he’s VERY good.

If I had to pick a Gone with the Wind character to compare Gingrich to, it wouldn't be Rhett Butler. He reminds me more of the broken down old nag that Butler shanghaied to get Scarlett O'Hara home to Tara after the burning of Atlanta.

As far as I can see that seems to be the main reason that supporters think Newt should be the nominee. I don't think the debates are going to be the 'make or break' that people say.

Let's get real - it will be liberal moderators on a liberal channel ('cause Obama won't debate any other way) - and it will be filled with 'gotcha' questions aimed at Newt. Obama will get the softball questions which will have been fed to him in advance...oh, and the media will tout Obama to be the winner no matter what afterwards.

I can totally imagine it. Let's face it, no matter who our nominee ends up being - they are going to be the 'away' team playing at the 'home' stadium. Our nominee had better have more than debating skills to go on because they're not going to get much of a chance to beat Obama at that.

lol...the ONLY characteristic Newtie shares with Rhett is the ‘don’t give a d@mn’ thing. He looks more like the Stay-Puff Marshmallow Man every year.

VPs are doomed to obscurity, unless you are the class clown like Joe Biden.

No, Herman Cain is too valuable to put in a closet. Newt doesn’t seem to me to be one who much listens to what others have to say. He’s too busy thinking up what he’s going to say next.

As I’ve said before, Newt might make a good chief of staff for President Cain.
