Clara sure uses a lot of cooking oil. Was it not rationed during the depression? I know sugar and some other things was.

any grease from cooking was put in a coffee can and the stores bought it by the pound for the war effort...The whole country worked to defeat the nazi and japan...You would also grow victory gardens in the back yard...

I still have my old ration book someplace. There was one book for every member of the family...mine still had some stamps in it.

I believe cooking oil came about after the depression, everyone used lard, and grease during those times. Corn oil was invented in 1910. But during the depression we did not have an effective distribution system. The barter system was alive and well back then. You paid the doc with a chicken. LOL
