As an Astros fan, I can say today was an absolute kick in the gut. I would love to personally punch Bud Selig in the face.

You mean you're not looking forward to all those powerhouse A's and Mariners games? ;-)

Need more domes!

I do advocate all college teams in the NCAA basketball tournaments. Do away with conference tourneys and let everybody go for it. Generates interest in dark horses and would probably just add 2-3 more games replacing the conference tourney games.

MLB should play world series games starting at 1:00pm local time at the home field. Stop playing world series games in the middle of the night when kids cannot watch it. If a kids home team is in the world series, the teachers should let them watch an inning or two. When I was a kid in the 60’s the nuns would let us watch a little Koufax and Drysdale.

From a sporting standpoint I have to laugh at the concept of a team that couldn’t win its division somehow becoming a ‘world champion’. Yet we see it repeatedly.

Sometimes the best "team" doesn't come in first. I could give you plenty of examples........

Man I feel for you.

I don't know WHAT I would do if they moved the Braves to the American League.

ESPN Classic’s “Who’s Number 1”? had a program on Top 20 “Best Pennant Races” that I watched a few nights ago

Although most went way back before my time, some of them I recall as a (former) baseball junkie. The “second guesser” guests at the end noted that the playoff system basically has taken out the importance of pennant races. I agree with that, and since baseball has chosen to over-expand, over-pay and over-price, I said hasta la vista many years ago.

And haven’t missed the game I used to love one bit.

LOL, not if they play year round. Even now when the northern teams dominate playoffs it gets very wet and cold the end of October.

Not me. I had to listen to Pirates’ rally on a transistor during recess (Kubek hit in the throat by bad hop grounder)

After we returned to class, came Maz’s HR.

“As an Astros fan, I can say today was an absolute kick in the gut. I would love to personally punch Bud Selig in the face.”

As a Pirates fan, I am rejoicing in that we’ll never, ever, ever see 6th place in the NL Central again!!!!!

I’d still love to punch Bud Selig in the face with you though! That moron has structured the entire league around insuring both the Yankees and Red Sox make the postseason every year.

I also think this restructuring will mean designated hitting in the NL. There’s going to be an interleague game every day since there are 15 teams in the AL and 15 teams in the NL now.

I’ve always wondered why there isn’t designated fielding ... if a designated hitter makes so much sense, wouldn’t it make more sense to have 9 fielding experts ... I mean, playing the field means you’re much more prone to injury. We could see hitters play the game well into their 50s!!!! That means even more players on the team ... that means more superstars!!! Come on Bud ... you know you want to do that!!!

Anyway, once the DH is part of the NL, I’m done with baseball. That rule has never made sense to me ... its flat out stupid and senseless. It takes away so much strategery.

Then again, come to think of it, watching the Pirates really hasn’t been baseball these past 20 years anyway. Their strategery has been “dump players, get suspects, watch suspects improve, dump players, whine about being poor, rinse, lather, repeat .... “

Dispense with division races and make it a balanced schedule. Make it like the NBA and NHL where the top teams in the conference (or in this case, league) go to the playoffs. To expand the playoffs, you have the top four teams go, where one plays four and two plays three. It gets rid of division races, which have been compromised by the wild card anyway. That way it would be like the old days, except of course then it was only the top team from each league that went to the post season. In case of ties, use head to head records or one game playoffs, where necessary.

Yeah, I have been a fan since 1964. Very dark day when this dipshit takes a dump on 50 years of tradition.

It seems this guy is single handledly trying to destroy baseball.

It hasn't made sense to have 16 teams in one league and 14 in the other. The solution is obvious--send Selig's team back where it belongs, to the AL. Moving the Astros to the AL will mean that the state of Texas will have no team in the National League. An all-Texas World Series will be impossible (not that there have been many of them to date).

Of the 7 most populous states, Texas will be the only one with no NL team. (All 7 have at least two teams--California has 5--but at present all of them are represented in both leagues except for Pennsylvania, which has two NL teams...it lost its AL team in 1955.)
