Since leaving office in 1999, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has spent much of his time convincing conservatives to support government subsidies for large corporations, reports the Washington Examiner.
In addition to his work as a “strategic consultant” for government-sponsored mortgage lender Freddie Mac, the Examiner reports that tax filings show Gingrich received money from the ethanol lobby.
Green Energy, a lobbying group that works to secure and create government subsidies for the much-criticized ethanol industry, paid the Gingrich Group more than $300,000 as recently as 2009. Unlike most conservative experts on the industry, Gingrich is a staunch advocate of ethanol, an expensive corn-based alternative fuel opposed by many conservatives due to its price tag and incompatibility — at high concentrations — with some modern automobile engines.

That is why one of the platforms of the Tea Party was to start electing outside the beltway people. We're sick of this insider stuff.
Of course we do have one of those running but he is criticized for not being an insider, a la lack of experience cries.

I’m backing Cain right now too. I don’t believe any of the crap they’ve been spewing, and I don’t care how many skanky-assed crack hos they trot out there to make unfounded accusations. Play time’s almost over, soon the voters will speak: that time of the cycle that the politicians fear and loathe the most.
The shear negativity of the real facts on Newt make everything seem like a smear to his devout worshipers.
Cain’s problems are fixable.
A “hit piece” is an article where the facts are deliberately misrepresented or inaccurate.
A critique is an article where the facts are accurate and the author analyzes those facts and states his conclusions.
A whine is when every critique that is posted is called a “hit piece” because the reader doesn’t agree with how the author analyses the true facts or the conclusions reached by the author (or other readers).

I made it clear in my original post on this thread (#15) that Newt Gingrich was never part of my personal 'top tier'. I don't consider expressing my opinion that I believe Newt Gingrich to be a Washington 'insider', something I think is patently obvious, to be a 'cheap shot'. Others dismiss Herman Cain with gratuitous insults such as 'he's just trying to sell books'. Now, those are 'cheap shots'...trashing a candidate with an insulting comment that questions their honesty and integrity, just as some here did to Sarah Palin, my original choice for the Republican presidential nomination. So, in a way, I'm used to it. I don't expect every FReeper to agree with me. I also don't believe that explaining why I don't support 'experienced' politicians like Gingrich, the kind of experience that helped get us into the mess we're in, today, is 'throwing dirt' on them. If it is, then no criticism of any candidate is possible - and that would be absurd.

One of them (Cain) is being eviscerated falsely; the rest like that, so they look the other way.
Same boat here. Love the way he communicates, love the way he debates, hate a whole lot of what he does (like what you just linked).
Herman was passionately defended here by most. The charges were obvious BS.
Foreign policy is what’s dragging him down. He needs to get much better, and fast.
Clinton didn’t even come CLOSE to making a foreign policy decision for the first two years he was in office, according to Morris. I sure as hell think Heman’s ability to staff well is superior to anyone in the bunch. But I think they would bring different strengths. I was excited that Mr. Newt decided to run. I’d have no trouble voting for him—or any of them for that matter, except the one who must be referred to as mittens.
