So really what this whole bogus kerfuffle is about is the fact that the Democrats, and a lot of people on FR, can tie the Gingrich name to Freddie Mac.

He was PAID $1.6 million by Freddie Mac. That certainly does "tie" him to them.

Big freaking deal.

Perhaps it wasn't. But perhaps it was. But Newt's claim that he was consulted for his "historical" perspective is ridiculous. No one believes that. It is absurd. Big companies pay ex-Reps for ACCESS and INFLUENCE. Fredie hired 4 ex-Reps, including Gingrich. Did they want Vin Weber for his "history" chops too? If Newt really stands by that claim - LET'S SEE IT.

Not to mention the fact that it was 10 years ago.

Wow. 2008 was 10 years ago? Time sure does fly.

Gingrich was first hired as a private citizen by Freddie Mac from 1999-2002. Ten years ago. The time frame you’re whining about him being an “historian” for Freddie. Seems to me that the first doubts about Fannie and Freddie’s solvency were brought up about the same time Gingrich left their employ in 2002. Some influence he had at that time.

Then he was hired again in 2006 - 2008 for $300K a year. That worked out real well for Freddie again too, didn’t it? Democrats won the elections in 2006 and swept the House and the Senate. So unless the Democrats have a secret love affair for Newt I seriously doubt he had much influence with a Democrat congress over Fannie and Freddie during the time of his last employment with them.
