WASHINGTON (AP) - A GOP plan to raise taxes by $290 billion over the next decade would limit deductions for mortgage interest, charitable donations and state and local taxes as part of a deficit-reduction deal. Some workers could also see their employer-provided health benefits taxed for the first time, though aides cautioned that the plan is still fluid...

Time for Conservatives to get off the GOP plantation.
The same guys who can vote themselves raises with our money, have no problem seeing you pay more in taxes.
They need to do the sort of thing Reagan did.
They should abolish the mortgage deduction and a host of others, and then lower the tax rate at the same time.
Agreed. This is nuts. We overwhelmingly vote in outsider conservatives to stop the G-D spending, and we get minor reductions in spending increases and pay more in taxes. Awesome.
They are simply too weak and pathetic to stand up for the fight. The dumbazzes put their own sorry behinds in this position.
Standing up would mean having to get in front of a microphone and defending and teaching a position.
They don’t want to be branded “do nothing” by the MSM.
Sad bunch of critters they are.
I could live with that — but that’s not what they are proposing.
Great job guys. You're implementing the economic plans of the Occupy Wall Street crowd.
Rather than simplifying the tax code as everyone in the real world demands, it looks like they are adding a couple extra cats on treadmills and falling bowling balls to the Rube Goldberg machine that is our tax code.
On second thought, this would increase the taxes on a lot of state, county and federal “workers”. They are some of the only ones that can qualify for a mortgage these days.
Six Whiskey Tango
They’ll say its just “revenue enhancement” not higher taxes
lol
We’ve heard it before, that loud sound of the RINO mating call called “cave, cave”
Cave-men are neanderthals!
Well, not to be a broken record, but I'm watching all this political stuff like people watch a sports season. It's entertainment and a hobby, but it doesn't affect your life.
And what I mean by that last remark is, frankly, we're screwed no matter who is in the white house. That is why I have somewhat of a sense of humor about this whole thing. Black humor to be sure, but in a serenity prayer sort of way.
It's why I moved from Seattle to rural Kentucky this year. It is a small farm and house I purchased two weeks before Obama was elected. It even has a natural spring. Since these pictures were taken, we've added an 8x16 12' tall shed and we're completing the final steps for a 40x80x12 building at the back of the property, abut 60 feet to the right of the house, by where the rental car is parked. We've also put an 8x14 deck on the back of the house where that beam was attached in anticipation of a deck. And a greenhouse is my next project. And I just purchased a John Deer 1010 for the garden, grading the driveway, bush-hogging, etc.
We sure need an opposition party. No republican will get my vote. I really don’t see much difference so I refuse to be played for a fool again. Like I was in 2008. I voted for mcCain and still wasted my vote.
Good for you! Wish I could afford to do what you did.
Very nice. Best of luck to you in Kentucky. I lived in Portland, Oregon for 20 years, now I live in the Czech Republic.
Black humor is the only way to stay sane. That and a healthy dose of cynicism (at least for me). Politics is, for me, the grand game. And I agree.....it really makes no difference who’s in charge. The end result is the same.
Must be something in the water up there on Capitol Hill. And people freak out about flouride......I think there’s something a whole lot worse in the D.C. water supply.

Our huge enabler was that we rented. :-)
The place cost me less than one year’s wages, and the property taxes are less than 10% of those for a Seattle mcmansion.
—Correct, social engineering needs to go. 999—
You actually nailed why I’m against those tax exemptions and tax credits. They are used by the government to control people’s behavior. The mortgage tax credit is the first time in history people have been hoodwinked into spending $1,000 to save $200 in taxes. :-D
