(Reuters) - The top U.S. Catholic bishop said on Monday that a child sex abuse scandal at Penn State University "opens a wound" within the church, which remains scarred from its own similar controversies and cover-ups.
"We know what you're going through," Archbishop Timothy Dolan of New York, president of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, told a news conference in Baltimore where hundreds of bishops have gathered for their national meeting.

Swiftly? There is evidence that they've known about this for nearly 15 years! They only moved "swiftly" when they made national and international news 24-7 for a full week. You just can't resist, can you? Here is clear evidence that pedophilia on a wide scale with complete (and continuing) cover up goes on in institutions other than the Catholic Church and all you can do is continue to attack Catholics. Just admit that you were wrong and that homosexual abuse and cover up is in no way unique to the Catholic Church. We'll forgive you. That's what we do. Posting rants like this only makes you look like a Catholic-hating kook.
Penn State leadership was removed by the board when the board learned about the situation unlike the Vatican where Cardinal Law still serves.
Nobody said child rape was exclusive to the Catholic church. If you'll read the article, or have someone read it to you, you'll find that it draws parallels between the two.
I don't hate Catholics, just pedophiles and those who cover for them. It's sad you don't feel the same way. Now tell me who's the kook?

When (and if) you come to a more complete and truthful comprehension of all that the Catholic Church has been, is now and will be, then you will not be liable to such bigotry. Try looking at the recently-produced video by Fr. Robert Barron entitled “Catholicism” and you will know more than just the name of one wayward sinful priest.
Using your standards, when the Lord Jesus Christ who is the incarnate God assembled a group of 12 followers to proclaim His Father’s message after he retruned to heaven and one of those followers sinned by betraying him up to death, you would have supposed the Lord God to have said, “This is an outright failure; I have 8% of my followers betraying me. All is lost.” Is this what you’d say?
I’d recommend some reading about the Catholic Church. You might start with “Rome Sweet Home” by Scott Hahn - a convert to the Catholic Church.

Nice deflection.
So, you’re not willing to put your sins out there for all of us to see? Usually when this happens, it is because we fear that others will judge us harshly. Know what, they likely will.
But if you were to come home to the Catholic Church, you would find God’s mercy and desire for you to be reconciled to Him. No matter what your sins have been TSgt

The difference between Penn State and the Catholic church is that Penn State swiftly removed the enablers
You just posted an incorrect statement. Try to get your facts straight stupid. You are wrong.

My Bible says nothing about Jesus or his followers raping children. It does say, "But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea."

The deflection is your unwillingness to hold pedophile clergy and their enablers accountable via the argument of we all have sinned. Based on this logic one can only assume that you would have no issue with Jerry Sandusky babysitting your children and grandchildren. Why don't you give him a call?

I'm not the one who failed to see the picture of Cardinal Law serving at the behest of the Pope.
Who removed who and who still remains?

You seriously miss the centrality of repentence and merciful forgiveness to the Scriptures. To those who extend mercy, mercy will be theirs. Where will you be standing on the day of judgement? Or are you simply your own judge?
Given my own sins, I’ve opted for mercy toward those who have sinned (please do NOT purposely misinterpret this as my condoning sin, as you have done).
To: veritas2002
I have no tolerance or mercy for pedophiles.
