BETTENDORF, Iowa -- Previewing an address he will deliver Tuesday morning in Eastern Iowa, Gov. Rick Perry on Monday night promised to "uproot" the three branches of government and institute wide-reaching reforms throughout the federal apparatus.
"Tomorrow I'm going to unveil a plan to uproot all three branches of government and overhaul Washington," he said in an address to the Scott County GOP, adding that his plan will "touch each branch of government, because they each have contributed to the demise of America."
Perry said his reform proposal will target "lifetime federal judges who arrogantly rewrite our laws from the bench," as well as the "permanent bureaucracy of the executive branch, which thwarts the will of the American people to advance a big government agenda." And he pledged to outline "dramatic reforms for a Congress that not only spends too much but is IN Washington too much."
The Texas governor, who rode an anti-Washington wave to victory in his 2010 gubernatorial re-election race, noted that the DC metro area has not suffered from the same recession that closed stores on Main Streets all over the country.
"That's because all those lobbyists, that's because all those overpaid czars and bureaucrats haven't suffered one bit while we've been going through one of the worst economies that this country's ever seen," he said.
Both in his book Fed Up and in a recent interview with the editorial board of the New Hampshire Union Leader, Perry has advocated for term limits for members of the judiciary, even those in the Supreme Court. He's also pledged to eliminate earmarks and wipe out several federal agencies. But aides say that his address tomorrow - also in Bettendorf - will break new ground in its proposals for specific federal reforms.

Too little.
Too late.
Nobody is paying attention to him anymore. His only purpose now is to serve as a vote splintering candidate to help Romney. That’s why the media is suddenly pumping him up.
Get back to me Rick “La Raza” Perry when you do a 180 on your Open-Border Pro-Illegal Alien positions.
I’ll be only too happy to vote for you when I see a sincere change of heart on these issues.
Thankfully, once a republican is elected, it will cost less to implement changes as we will be back to only 50 states, down from the Obama era 57.
does he have all 57 states down?
It's a pity, because for his many flaws, he has a lot of good ideas that ought to be picked up by the eventual nominee.
Great ideas. The campaign is far from over. As a former Perry basher I understand the comments here but as a Texan who has watched Perry in the past you cannot cont him out. He had time and lots of money.
Interesting theory, but I think he's getting more attention now because of his recent gaffes.
Despite his gaffe...and though I am firmly in Cain’s camp at thois point...I believe Governor Perry would make good on his overhaul of government, on his energy plans which would help the nation in many critical ways, certainly on national defense including closing the borders (though I disagreee with him sharply on dealing with the illegals already here), and I believe he would be very strong in foreign affairs.
I believe he would lower taxes and get the economy going strongly, and believe his commitment to the 10th amendment would be very hjelpful across the board.
But...his stance on the illegals here and the types of help he gives them and particularly his meeting with and seeking the support of La Raza in 2010 still catch in my craw.
Tear a tree limb from limb, yes, but you cannot "uproot" branches.
Such as....?
The Trans-Texas Corridor?
Outsourcing roads to a Spanish company?
Please inform us as to what "good ideas" he has.
Unless it’s a mangrove.
An agency is not a “branch” of government you MSNBC ignoramous.
“An agency is not a branch of government you MSNBC ignoramous.”
I guess I have to include Perry in that description as he also seems to think that way. Sigh
So, you’ve formed your opinions about Perry without knowing a single thing about what he’d do as president? That’s what I’m talking about. Ignorance is bliss, I guess.
Perry is unveiling, unveiling and unveiling. Anything to get back in the race. He needs to sit this one out.
You uproot roots, not branches
(and I’m sure the liberal media will be pointing that out to Gov. Perry at least once every 10 minutes for the next eight weeks)
How does one branch of government uproot all three branches? Checks and balances are there for a reason.
