IDF to Take Offensive in Gaza If Missiles Attack Resume
Arutz Sheva ^ | 15/11/11 | Tzvi ben Gedalyahu

The IDF’s “tit-for-tat” response will be replaced by an offensive in Gaza if missiles attacks resume, Chief of Staff, Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz told the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Security Committee Tuesday.

He told the Knesset Members on the panel that if Hamas and allied terrorists initiative a new round of fighting, “We will need to shorten the length of fighting as much as possible.”

Improved intelligence has enabled the military to pre-empt dozens of terrorists’ missile attacks on southern Israel.

The Air Force on Monday successful targeted a terrorist cell trying to launch advanced long-range missiles. At least one terrorist was killed and seven others wounded in the aerial strike, which General Gantz said “inhibited the advancement of Islamic Jihad's rocket production.”

He also pointed out that potential trouble spots exist throughout Israel, especially in Judea and Samaria and at the Egyptian border, and that there is a constant threat of terrorists infiltrating from the Sinai and Judea and Samaria.

Gantz told the Knesset committee that the chance of renewed violence in Judea and Samaria increases in face of disappointment by the Palestinian Authority over its apparent failure to win recognition by the United Nations Security Council.

The Chief of Staff’s political views over the years have been dovish. When he was commander of the Hevron Brigade, he invited the area's Jewish civilian security officers to meet with Palestinian Authority security officials in order to promote cooperation.

The Jewish communities’ security officers rejected the invitation. Shortly afterwards, the Oslo War, also known as the Second Intifada, broke out, with PA soldiers using rifles given to them by the Israeli government.

I'll say it again. Build up in Ashkelon or Ashdod, so the Hamastinian forces concentrate their defensive power and human shields in the North. Then swing around to both East (land) and West (amphibious) and move in, joining hands in the South to cut off supplies from Egypt. No heavy resistance, no propaganda machine spewing out pictures of dead civilians deliberately placed in harm's way by their "defenders," done and done. Six hour war. It's possible.

Or kill a popular terrorist who is loved by Palis. When they congregate a half million people to celebrate his murderous ways, MOAB the rally.

You are already hated by the world. You make your point and scare the piss out of the Arab world.

Or just negotiate with Egypt and give the terrorist scum Sinai. Let the Europeans help them build it into a muzzie paradise. Then you seal the border.

Why not build 500 armed drones, and keep 100 in the air at all times? If Hamas fires at the drones that is good - they would waste ammo. Meanwhile the drones are up and ready to attack any launch site. These terrorists need several minutes to set up and launch, and they can really only launch from certain open areas - the drone operators can spot the tell tale signs and fire at the terrorists. If they are late, the drones can follow the terrorist cell that fired the missile and attack them. Or heck 3 drones can be sent one to try to hit them before they launch, one just after they launch and one to chase them if the first two miss.

I think there is a good future use for drones in this capacity, effectively building a web like deterrent that is an anti-rocket system and a counter-attack system all at once. Just fly them in random pre-designed pattern over northern Gaza looking for places/people to shoot.

That’s good, too. But it’s reactive. I want the organization taken down once and for all and made an example of. That would be proactive, as would be the first drone in your idea.
