I should have mentioned that my last post was a joke. My bad.
Actually, my mother wouldn’t be caught dead buying Tokyo Rove’s book. She’s a leftist Democrat who’d be occupying Wall Street if she were in better health. She spends her days on the Daily Kos and Alternet, I believe.
My mom and I get along great, as long as we don’t discuss politics. We do give each other gag gifts, however. Last Christmas (”yuletide” in my mom’s native tongue) I got a subscription to the International Socialist Review. She got a copy of Jonah Goldberg’s Liberal Fascism from me.
Sorry for any confusion.
Ah! Much relieved. I had a cousin actually do that with his mother. It was sad for both of them.
Ok, she probably just thought she was buying you a book you would like even if she didn’t. And it’s hard to come up with gift ideas for people who have so much.
Holidays must suck for you. The only Rats in the whole family are my wife's grandparents. They are old school Rats and didn't vote for Obummer so they are tolerable and provide an excellent punching bag during Christmas dinner for the rest of us.
I’m glad you were only joking. I lost my mother a month ago, and thank God I’d matured enough to appreciate all her good qualities and deep love for me, rather than our differences (which I used to argue when I was young and rebellious). I miss her so much.
Sounds like you’ve also learned just to avoid subjects like politics, but I hear the humor in your writing so it sounds like you two have a great relationship.
Moms are precious and you only get one, so enjoy her as often as possible.
