Good post - seems memories are short these days.

Um, no - he was “book dealed” out of the House (contrast to Hillary). The downward spiral was AFTER Newt’s leadership.

Newt was the speaker of the house of representatives, 2 people away from being president. That is an extraordinary management job, it was in a time of budget crisis, he solved the crisis, and it resulted in the only balanced budget of your lifetime.

Additionally, as Gingrich mentioned in at least one debate, he is a small business owner of at least 4 profitable small businesses, past and present, all of which employed people.

Not to mention he is the only candidate who can “manage” the media - and not pander.

I believe you’ve mis-placed your links...this is a Newt thread. Might be a good idea to post them on Cain’s threads so your people can be encouraged, they will need it....

You Cain supporters need to get on the bandwagon as 73% of Cains supporters like Newt....and once all is said and done they’ll vote Newt.

“Among Cain’s supporters 73% have a favorable opinion of Gingrich to only 21% with a negative one. That compares to a 33/55 spread for Romney with Cain voters and a 32/53 one for Perry.

They like Gingrich a whole lot more than they do the other serious candidates in the race.”

Not true. Newt was responsible for the only balanced budget of your lifetime. He was speaker during the Clinton years. You have your timelines wrong.

Reagan and GW Bush, on the other hand, did have to deal with a recalcitrant, democratic congress that took increased receipts that resulted from presidential tax cuttting policies, and grossly over-spent. The reason they didn’t veto more is that they did not have a line-item veto. The democrats were willing to starve our military in order to get their way with spending.

Why should I? What does Newt offer that Cain doesn’t have? Give me one solid reason why I should back Newt.

“After the first four states, whichever (Cain or Newt) has lost momentum, should bow out and endorse the other “not Romney” of the campaign.”

Newt supporters can do whatever they want. I’ll be standing with Cain. I think it’s funny that Newt supporters are demanding that Cain supporters back him. If I wanted Newt, I would have supported him.

I would like a Cain/Newt ticket. Cain at least would never endorse Dede Scuzzyflava.

Even Newt has repeatedly said it was the dumbest thing he’s done in recent years and failed to accomplish what he wanted to accomplish. He refuses to concede energy and the environment to the Dems.

Man, stop drinking the cool aide, the balanced budget was forcasted, we never, ever, got there, we have rasied the debt ceiling continuously. In 1998 debt incease leveled off but the debt grew. http://www.google.com/m/url?client=ms-android-verizon&devlocsession=off&ei=7YvBToisKJ_vlQefCg&gl=us&hl=en&q=http://fpc.state.gov/documents/organization/105193.pdf&source=android-browser-type&ved=0CBQQFjAA&usg=AFQjCNGJe_huhPHM3OdiJAjuRggfjYT-iQ

Newt Gingrich had a successful period as Speaker of the House of representatives in which he balanced the budget AND had a surplus. During that time, the surplus went against whatever deficit there was, so he can also legitimately claim to have lowered the deficit.

The deficit this year is about a trillion dollars.

Would you prefer that or Newt’s final, personally overseen budget that had over 125 billion in surplus? Additionally, the first two years of Newt’s speakership, the deficit nosedived to 100 billion and then to 22 billion. Then he had his 2 surpluses, and then based on his policies, the next two years were also surpluses.

There is nothing else like it in recent history; it was a huge triumph of conservatism, and we’ve got folks running around trying to bad-mouth it because of some candidate they happen to like better than Gingrich.

Bad-mouthing that great conservative success injures conservatives in general and their own candidate and belief system, if you think about it.

And you are arguing that Newt, and only would be able to do the same as President?

What’s to stop Gingrich from going all wobbly on us and reaching across the aisle to Pelosi, et al?

Newt damaged his own brand, he is simply a Washington insider that cannot be trusted and does not know when it is time to go home.

Well, it’s either Newt or Romney. Cain is not qualified to be president. Cain has peaked. Sorry.

Newt needs No learning curve which Cain clearly does...

Our nation cannot afford the time for Cain to catch up...our nation is in too much peril...and the risk on a newbee with zero expereince in politics he has already shown in some instances he doesn't even have a grasp on the 'vocabulary'...Washington will eat Cain up...and far too many key people will have to devote time to bringing Cain up to par with just the basics. That time needs to be spent working on the issues at hand to turn this country off it's current course..... That reason is Huge!
