Yes, Dear Leader has scheduled a press conference for 9:45 p.m. EST during Patriots-Jets Sunday Night Football game. I doubt NBC will break in for it, but the cable networks will surely cover the APEC summit presser. That's the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit being held in Honolulu this weekend.
There's plenty of mischief afoot as this Reuters article attests:
U.S. expects "significant" APEC step on green trade
The United States expects Asia Pacific leaders on Sunday to take a "significant step" toward reducing tariffs and other barriers that block trade in environmentally-friendly good and services, a senior administration official said on Sunday.
"We're in a good place. We has some very constructive discussions around the important issue of environmental goods and services trade liberalization," the U.S. official told Reuters at the annual summit meeting of the 21 members of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation.
"We expect that when the outcome is explained after the leaders meeting it will be recognized as a very significant step forward," the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity before the leaders issue their statement.
SNIP
In case NBC does interrupt the game to cover Obama's press conference, remember an empty beer can thrown at your TV does less damage than a full one.
Dang I missed that. I see they just went to real news!
Obama is burning daylight—literally. The press conference is being held outdoors. It’s a beautiful setting with palm tress in the foreground and the ocean in the background. However sunset is at 5:50 p.m. HST, about 44 minutes from now.
Fox and CNN covering live, MSNBC in usual programming.
Echo in Obama's audio finally fixed.
a new travel card agreement?
Travel card, green jobs, new Pacific rim trade org, wants to double U.S. exports to Asia.
Obama says we have strongest sanctions in years against Iran thanks to Obama, Russia and China.
Wants to solve issue diplomatically, but no options off the table.
He’s answering the first reporter’s question, and I note him looking down at the podium. He very obviously has notes there so he had to have been given the question beforehand.
Has anyone seen a teleprompter? If not, he’s got to have something down on the podium, maybe some kind of Ipad type thing.
BTW, he can sure blather on...
Making sure that Iran does not weaponize nuclear power ...
Q. ... are they (Republicans) uninformed, out of touch or irresponsible?
A. They are wrong
Obama says it is torture, blah, blah. A short answer from him.
Next question from CBS' Norah O'Donnell on GOP debate, Mitt Romney saying Iran will have nuclear weapon if Obama reelected. Obama says he will not respond to candidates until GOP nominee selected. Goes back to first question and response.
“I’m not commenting on what’s said in debates until GOP has a nominee.”
I thought that was the second question. The first one was a true idiocy. Asked about Bachman and Santorum (I think) support of waterboarding. Gives him 3 choices along the following lines (don’t remember the specific wording) - are the Republicans 1) idiots, 2) morons, or 3) the devil incarnate?
Ah - you beat me to it and with a better command of the question. It’s clouding over here on the west side of the island. Sure would like to see it start raining on him.
Does he think he’s FDR? This guy is worse than a Roman Emperor! Paging Caligula!!!
OMG! Second question, he is given a question with multiple choice answers.
Nora Dunn is now up asking her question. Second question referring to the Republican debates. He says he’s not going to respond to questions about the Republicans until they get an actual nominee. Then he continues to blather on. He’s very hesitant as he speaks with lots of long pauses.
Dan Lothian is auditioning for CNN’s Peking bureau.
LoL!
He said that less than 1 minute after commenting on what was said in last night's debate.
Beautiful background.....boring message. Ugh....
Our son was totally pi$-$ed at him this morning. Tried to drive into town (Honolulu) to give a few piano lessons and not only was the freeway closed but all the access roads that cross the freeway were closed. You quite literally couldn’t go to any alternate routes without driving all the way around the island, and I’m not even sure that would have worked.
And then he has the cojones to talk about making travel easier. Yeah, right.
