Jay-Z’s ‘Street’ $marts
New York Post ^ | November 12, 2011 | DAVID SEIFMAN, DANNY GOLD and DOUG AUER

The “99 percent” have got money problems -- but Jay-Z’s got none.

The millionaire rap mogul is set to make a mint by hawking T-shirts based on the Occupy Wall Street anti-capitalist movement.

The shirts bear the words “Occupy Wall Street,” with red graffiti spray altering the slogan to read “Occupy All Streets.”

They went on sale yesterday for $22 on Jay-Z’s Rocawear Web site.

The music star -- comfortably among the richest “1 percent” of Americans that is the focus of the protesters’ rage -- has not committed to giving any of his T-shirt proceeds to the drum-beating beatniks occupying Zuccotti Park.

When the protesters learn where the shirts are coming from, they may not want the dough. According to reports, the tees are made in Mexico, where labor is dirt cheap.

Black entrepreneur profits by marketing Occupy merchandise. Excellent.

Say what you will about the relative merits of hip-hop, I tip my hat to Mr. Carter (Jay-Z) for his savvy business skills. There’s a reason he has a net worth of $450,000,000.00

Not too shabby for a guy who came from a housing project in BedStuy.

Why would he? That's where the market is. You don't sell ice to Eskimos.

Jay-Z is one of the most successful capitalists of the last 15 years.

I think its cool that a guy from the ghetto is showing these college educated idiots how to make a buck through capitalism. Somehow the image of a white college graduate spending his day beating on a drum, while a black entrepreneur becomes even more successful, selling the altered symbol of the white boy's idiotic angst, is quite amusing to me. Interesting how the old stereotypes have been reversed in this case.

This reminds me of the market for Che shirts. The Left is so idiotically myopic that it can’t see the irony in turning anti-capitalist icons into capitalist merchandise. So funny.

As an aside, every time I see a Che shirt I ask the fellow, “So your swastika shirt was in the laundry?”

I don't see why so many posters are quick to support the guy. Just because he knows how to make money doesn't mean he isn't an absolute bastard.

You don’t get that much money without being an absolute bastard.

If you aren’t an absolute bastard you’re going to make less money.

Welcome to capitalism, I guess, but this is how it’s done.

Because it’s wicked to promote a destructive life? It’s a cancer on society?

Go tell it to McDonald's. They make obscene profits selling cheeseburgers that will kill you (and don't even taste great anyway).

How about Walmart? They don't pay their workers a living wage and will fire them at the drop of a hat. The Waltons are raking in money hand over fist.

Here come the oil companies! Exxon Mobil made $10.3 billion dollars in the third quarter of this year alone. They did it by charging three and a half bucks a gallon. That sound friendly to you?

And you're going to get mad at Jay-Z? For what, the diamonds on his neck? The music he makes? Because if Exxon Mobil did more collaborations with Swizz Beatz I wouldn't mind the cost of gas as much.

This is capitalism. This is the free market.

You want bootstraps? Hov used to live in the projects. Now?

Baby I’m a boss, I dunno what they do,
I don’t get dropped, I dropped the label,
World can’t hold me, too much ambition,
Always knew it’d be like this when I was in the kitchen

Work hard and get lucky and you could do it too.

Jay Z is walking proof that any talentless idiot can make his way in a capitalist society.

Jay Z is walking proof that any talentless idiot can make his way in a capitalist society.

Can't possibly be that Jay-Z is good at what he does and is smart enough to get rich doing it. Look at all these other people selling fifty million albums, co-owning basketball teams, owning restaurants, running a record label, serving as co-brand director for Budweiser, buying and selling real estate in Manhattan...

Any talentless idiot can do all of these things.

In a capitalistic society that is based on ruthlessness, money and power... poor, feeble-minded, unintelligent, talentless Jay-Z is just lucking out left, right and center.

You ain't gotta like his music. But don't hate.

I speak fifty words of English, got a billion in the bank.

He fills the heads of young people with GARBAGE.

He has degenerated music.

He is a testament to the degeneration of mankind.

A rennaissance man he is not.
