It's a media driven rush to judgement, pure and simple. Hey. . but it's a free country, so people are free to sit behind their TV screens and feel self-righteous in between commercials.
Enjoy the meme
You're welcome to say that I am acting irrationally, but my rush to judgment preceded the media. As an attorney, once I saw the first article (which I've since read, and which didn't target Paterno) and a ink to the Grand Jury presentment, that's what I clicked on and that's the only thing I read. I don't know how far you'll need to go back through my posts, because I may have been the first person to post the Grand Jury Presentment on Free Republic.
My recent posts have gotten snippy, I will admit, and have lapsed into hyperbole. If you've been stating points from the Grand Jury presentment for days, including page and line number, and apologists ignore you and continue to post opinion as fact, you sometimes lapse into hyperbole. You may have missed some things, such as the great 'hearsay' skirmishes of November 2011. Did you know (and here, I'm speaking as an attorney) that according to one of the many hit-and-run posters who have been deploying the 'hearsay' defense on most threads, Paterno was actually prohibited by law from reporting the 2002 incident because it was 'hearsay.'?
My initial posts were based entirely on the Grand Jury Presentment. I wasn't calling for Paterno's resignation or firing early last Monday, and I wasn't calling for President Spanier to be removed.
I fairly simply stated that they had to go. There has been some good-natured chuckling on here because some things that I mentioned on Monday or Tuesday as being contained in, or conspicuously missing from, the Presentment (sometimes I get lucky) finally appeared in the media on Thursday or Friday.
So you're welcome to say I rushed to judgment. But in football terms, I outran the coverage. And I am by no means the only FR member who did so. As is often the case, there were people here who dealt only with the Presentment. There are countless FR members on here who will back that up. So it may not be quite that "pure and simple' as you think.
